IPL

What is it, and who is it suitable for?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light
IPL is a device that emits broad-spectrum light to target various skin concerns.
This can range from:
Hair Reduction
Pigmentation
Vascular lesions
Skin Rejuvenation
Acne

For hair removal, IPL works by targeting the melanin (dark pigment) in hair follicles, the light travels down the follicle disrupting the hair attached to the blood vessels which then weakens them over multiple treatments.
Multiple sessions are needed as the hair grows in different phases. Our aim is to treat the hair in the active growth stage (Anagen stage) which is when the hair is still attached to the blood vessels in the follicle. This is why 8-10 sessions are needed for best results. Ranging from 2-8 weeks apart depending on the area.

IPL works best on individuals with fair to medium skin tone and dark hair (brown to black).
Blonde, red or light brown hair is not suitable to treat.
Certain medical conditions, medications, and recent sun exposure may contraindicate someone for IPL. 
A consultation and test patch is required to determine whether a person is suitable for treatment.
