In this Together
It’s book week, so let’s talk about building a book collection that includes children and
young people with disability.
Reading picture books that tell stories about people with disabilities, or that have
illustrations of characters with visible disabilities, encourages discussions surrounding
diversity.
Having conversations and answering questions with family members will foster positive
interactions with others when out in the community.
In This Together works on projects that make the Surf Coast Shire more inclusive for people
with a disability but allies come in all ages!
We encourage you to consider adding some of these to your collection. We have provided a list of
good reads below.
Happy reading!
• When Charley Met Emma by Amy Webb
• Come over to my house by Eliza Hull, Sally Rippin, Daniel Gray-Barnett (Illustrator)
• Meeting Mimi, Story About Different Abilities by Francie Dolan
