Ablelink is really excited to announce that we have increased capacity to accept new referrals! We have 6 amazing Support Coordinators commencing with us next week so we are pleased to open up our books and have a chat about any Support Coordination supports you are seeking.

Last Wednesday we had the pleasure of hosting some industry legends at our office in Collingwood and we had a blast!

The Ablelink team all invited a provider they have been enjoying working with. The get together was focused on strengthening existing relationships, nurturing new ones and being able to make some introductions! Here’s a few of the snaps we got.

Image Description: Some of these images include groups of people posing for photos and smiling, others capture groups of people talking unaware of a photo being taken. Some of these photos are taken on a rooftop deck that capture the city skyline and an orange sunset behind the groups of people.

ā€œToday our team will be offline to attend a professional development dayā€œ

I’m sure you get these auto replies all the time, but what does this actually mean for the team at Ablelink? How does this benefit our employees and our customers??

Once every 3 months, we gather together to professionally upskill on sector changes and legislative requirements, talk about organizational improvements and fine tune our own practices to ensure we are providing effective, quality services to all our customers.

It is important to our team that we keep our finger on the pulse and never become complacent in our practices.

As the NDIS grows and develops… so do we.

After a day of some heavy thinking time, we always like to unwind with an afternoon of creativity, relaxation or sometimes some fun-minded competition!

Not only is this essential in maintain work/life balance, but it provides an excellent opportunity for our geographically dispersed team to build a magnificent workplace culture and connection.

Check out this little video to see some photos of our previous professional development days.

Video Description: A collection of photos featuring employees gathered at tables, meeting in forums, participating in art activities, competing at axe throwing, creating art projects and displaying home made hats in an online meeting.

Today, March 21st, is World Down Syndrome Day. Today we celebrate the lives and achievements of people with Down Syndrome and raise awareness about the rights and inclusion of people with Down syndrome around the world.

Why do we celebrate on this date?

The 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

But why do we wear socks on this day??

The ā€œlots of socksā€ campaign was initiated by ā€˜Down Syndrome International’ and Socks have been used as the symbol because chromosomes are shaped ā€œlike socksā€ and people with Down’s syndrome are born with an extra one. The bright colours and mismatched pairings are to celebrate the uniqueness and diversity of all people with Down Syndrome.

So please join us in showing off your best and brightest socks today. Hopefully your fashionable feet will bring awareness to someone new and kick start a powerful conversation (pun intended!)

Tomorrow is the 21st March, the annual celebration of World Down Syndrome Day. This year we are feeling super prepared and ask you to be too!

Each year, World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated by wearing some fun, funky, mismatched, colourful socks. Socks that will catch someone's eye and start a conversation.

We would love to see our friends join in the campaign by wearing your best and brightest socks tomorrow. Look out for our official post and we'd love it if you can share a pic with us. Will you have terrific tootsies? Dance a colourful cancan? Floor us with fabulous footwear?!

This week (March 13th to 19th) is Neurodiversity Celebration Week and we would like to share the love, now and at all times!

What is Neurodiversity Celebration Week?

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, and organisations with the opportunity to recognise the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual. See more and pledge your support at https://www.neurodiversityweek.com/

Here is one of the fabulous neurodivergent individuals we work with, Chris, who has taken the time to put together this little video that showcases some of the independent living skills he has been working on. Great work Chris, we love those bright smiles and can't wait to see what else you master!

We are very privileged to share this wonderful illustration and powerful message from our friend John McKenna. We fully support the philosophy behind John’s message and hope this is a wonderful tool to open up discussions with others.

ā€œThe purpose behind my idea for this illustration was for it to be a conversation starter or perhaps a reminder. I invite everyone to use it as a resource.

The trigger for me in developing this came out of frustration when hearing too many conversations where a person’s funding package overshadowed the individual and their goals.

This illustration has been given approval for use from the Estate of Stephen Hawking.ā€

John is an Empowerment Advocate and a self proclaimed ā€œIdeas man!ā€. You can follow John for more of his insights, thoughts and reviews at johnmckenna.com.au
