From a naturopath who’s been there, the basics will always matter more than adding another supplement…

Your body cannot heal in a constant state of stress, rushing, under eating, overtraining, poor sleep and nervous system dysregulation.

I’m not saying supplements can’t be supportive, because they absolutely can. But no amount of magnesium, probiotics or herbal tinctures will outwork a body that never feels safe.

The basics matter more than people realise:

> Morning sunlight
> Movement
> Stress management
> Learning how to regulate yourself
> Slowing your pace down
> Creating structure and consistency with your habits

Lately I’ve been speaking to a lot of my clients about the difference between up regulation vs down regulation (and understanding that not every nervous system tool is meant for every moment) 🦋🩵

If you already feel anxious, wired, overwhelmed or overstimulated, your body usually needs down regulation. This is where slower, grounding tools can help bring your system back into safety. Things like deep belly breathing, yin yoga, walks in nature, slower strength training, meditation, reducing stimulation and actually allowing yourself to slow down.

But if you feel flat, unmotivated, emotionally shut down, numb, low mood or stuck in a freeze state, sometimes more stillness can actually make you feel worse. This is where up regulation can be really supportive. Things like dancing around the house, singing in the shower, laughing with friends, getting sunlight, music, movement, ocean swims or more energising workouts can help bring your energy and mood back up.

The goal isn’t to be calm all the time. The goal is learning how to listen to your body and give your nervous system what it actually needs in that moment 🤍

Most women don’t realise how dysregulated they are because they never actually slow down long enough to notice it👀

The second you remove the noise, distractions and constant stimulation, you start noticing how “on” your body really feels.

I noticed this recently during a lymphatic massage after having a coffee a few hours earlier. I could literally feel my body sitting in fight or flight while trying to relax.

Your nervous system impacts everything: your hormones, gut, skin, sleep, energy and ability to lose weight.

This is a huge reason why I coach the way I do now🥹

A lot of what I teach came from my own experience and from learning the hard way that you can’t force fat loss if you haven’t laid the foundations.

I spent years trying to eat less and train more whilst my body was screaming at me through acne, bloating, anxiety, PMS and burnout.

The biggest shift for me came when I finally focused on my foundations first instead of constantly chasing quicker fixes and protocols.

SPELT SOURDOUGH WHITE CHOC RASPBERRY MUFFINS 🤍

The perfect nourishing sweet treat for your luteal phase - something comforting, satisfying and easy on digestion. Made with spelt (an ancient grain) and sourdough discard, you’re getting gentle fibre and prebiotic support to nourish your gut while you enjoy something sweet!

👀 SAVE this post for easy access to the recipe.

Ingredients:
2½ cups organic spelt flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 pack of noshu white chocolate baking chips
1 cup frozen raspberries
½ cup sourdough discard
1 cup almond milk
1/3 cup olive oil (or melted butter/coconut oil)
½ cup honey
1 egg

- Preheat oven to 180 degrees fan forced.
- In a large bowl, mix: spelt flour, salt, baking soda
- In a separate bowl, mix: sourdough discard, almond milk, olive oil, honey, egg.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and gently fold together (don’t overmix).
- Then add the raspberries & white choc chips and mix gently.
- Divide batter into a 12 cup muffin tray.
- Bake for around 20 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Let cool on a rack before eating, enjoy 🧁

Quick fixes worked for me… until they didn’t.

I kept ending up back where I started because I wasn’t actually supporting my body and I had no structure with my training or steps.

It wasn’t until I focused on my metabolism, did a proper reverse diet and worked on my gut, hormones and nervous system that things finally started to shift.

That’s when my results actually lasted.

5. Friends over for dinner on ANZAC day - put Matt in charge of the cooking (for once)
6. Feeding my sourdough starter

8. Bought some flowers
9. Not in active wear for once…
10. New hobby going strong
11. Swim with my brother
12. Hoops with Matty and zig
13. Matty cooked… again!!!

15. Followed by breakie, coffee and long chats 🍳☕️

I didn’t realise how much my relationships would change when I started working on myself✨

I thought I just needed to fix my body, feel better, have more energy but the biggest shift was how I started showing up.
More calm, grounded, present and confident in myself, which changed everything around me including my relationships!!

This part of your healing journey is the part people don’t think about (not just the physical side). It affects how you experience your whole life.
