                                            👀 Screen Time, Close Work & Kids' Eyes: What Parents Need to Know
Too much screen time and close-up activities like reading can increase the risk of myopia (short-sightedness) and cause tired, dry eyes — especially in young kids.
Here’s how to protect their vision:
✅ Top Tips for Healthy Screen & Reading Habits:
📏 Keep a Healthy Distance
Teach the "elbow rule" — screens and books should be at least one elbow-length from the eyes.
⏱️ Use the 20/20 Rule
Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look into the distance to relax the eyes.
💡 Always Use Good Lighting
Poor lighting = more eye strain. Make sure screens and books are viewed in bright, well-lit areas — no reading in dim rooms or using screens in the dark.
📵 Follow Age-Appropriate Screen Time Limits
* Under 2: No screen time (except video chats)
* Ages 2–4: Max 1 hour/day, co-watched with an adult
* Ages 5–17: No more than 2 hours/day for fun (schoolwork not included)
🏃♀️ Balance with Outdoor Time
Outdoor play helps delay the onset and slow the progression of myopia. Aim for 2 hours outside each day.
📱 Set Up for Success
Encourage upright posture, avoid screens in bed, and use features like Screen Distance on Apple devices to help build good habits.
