👓 Why do glasses get damaged in the car… if there’s a spectacle holder?
Great question - we get asked this a lot!
That little overhead “sunglasses compartment” is designed for convenience and protection from scratches or crushing while driving 🚗
But it doesn’t protect your glasses from heat.
On a warm day (especially here in Australia ☀️), the inside of a parked car can reach 60–70°C or more.
High temperatures can:
• Damage anti-reflective and other lens coatings
• Cause lenses to craze or peel
• Warp plastic frames
• Affect prescription lens performance
Even inside the compartment, your glasses are still exposed to the overall heat of the car cabin.
💡 Think of it this way:
The compartment protects from impact, not from temperature.
If possible, take your glasses with you when leaving the car — your lenses will thank you!
