πŸ“œ Have you heard there's a new Bill (proposed law changes) about the NDIS in Parliament?
πŸ‘€ Sam here - I've had a good read and talked to lots of people about it.
πŸ“ƒ PIAC (Public Interest Advocacy Centre) wrote a paper about it.
🚨 They're worried about some parts of the Bill.
😟 I am too.
πŸ” I think that the way the Bill is written means the changes in there could be done in a way that's great for participants, but stuff could also change in ways that are bad for us.
πŸ€” I don't think the Bill is clear enough.
πŸ“ It relies on some new Rules to explain how to do the changes for participants.
❓ But we don't have the Rules yet.
🀝 The Government says that the Rules will be co-designed.
🧐 I like that and I want to trust that, but I also think that some of this stuff should be in the proposed new NDIS Act (which is like the boss of all law), and not in the Rules.
πŸ“Š I made this table using lots of information, including the paper from PIAC. It explains some of the changes in a simple way and why I think we need to do more work on the Bill.
πŸ‘ There are some changes in the Bill that I think are good too.
πŸ€” You can make up your own mind.
βœ‰οΈ If you think the Bill needs some changes, you can let the Government know by writing to them here: https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Community_Affairs/NDISAmendment2024

LAC is a term thrown around a lot, but what does it mean, who are they?

LAC means Local Area Coordinator. Local area coordinators are government funded agencies in your community that are linked with the NDIA. LACs help you join NDIS, create your first plan and conduct your plan reviews. They can also give you tips on how to use your plan and get support.

Wanting to apply for NDIS? Contact your LAC for help.

Each region has a different agency as their LAC. You can find yours LAC at https://www.ndis.gov.au/contact/locations
