Where are we at with reinstating Naturopathy?

The process hasn’t been as straightforward as expected, but progress is happening. Since 1 July 2025, Private Healthcare Australia has been working with insurers to streamline reinstatement. Each fund chooses independently whether to bring rebates back.

These Funds are now offering rebates for Naturopathy

• CBHS Corporate Health
• Health Partners
• Mildura Health Fund
• Pheonix Health Fund
• QLD Country Health Fund (Inc Territory Health)
• See-U by HBF (Formerly CUA Health)
• St Luke’s Health
• Teacher Health (Teachers Federation, Qld Teachers & Uni Health)

Other funds are still reviewing their position. I’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

I recently completed 3 days of lecturing at Southern Cross University, teaching Master's students in Naturopathic Medicine. We focused on managing patients with complex conditions, emphasising critical, compassionate, and holistic thinking.

It was an honour to share insights and engage with future naturopaths, reflecting on the importance of continuous learning and teaching within this profession.

After years of work and perseverance by our professional bodies, the Australian Health Minister has approved the reinstatement of seven natural therapies under private health insurance coverage after reviewing the evidence.

The therapies returning to cover are:

Naturopathy
Western Herbal Medicine
Yoga
Pilates
Tai Chi
Shiatsu
Alexander Technique

It will take time for the health funds to implement these changes, and what modalities they cover is still up to their discretion, but it is a great step in the right direction for the recognition of the benefits of our profession.
