Recasting is a simple but powerful speech and language building strategy often used in therapy (and that parents can use at home too). When a child says something that’s not quite correct, we repeat it back to them using clear pronunciation and correct grammar— gently modelling the grammar, sounds, or vocabulary we want our children to learn.

No pressure. No correction. Just natural, supportive language modelling that helps children absorb new skills without interrupting the flow of conversation.

It’s one of the most effective ways to boost communication — and it fits seamlessly into everyday moments.

Contact Peach Speech Pathology on 9331 5436 or email contact@peachspeech.com.au if you have concerns regarding your child's speech and language development.

Swallowing Awareness Day helps raise awareness of dysphagia and the impact it can have on people’s health and quality of life. It also highlights the role of speech pathologists, who assess and support people with swallowing needs.

Mealtimes are an important part of our everyday lives. When eating and drinking safely are a concern, mealtimes can become stressful. At Peach Speech Pathology, we support children to explore new food options and build their confidence and skills to support safe eating and drinking.

In Term 2, we will be running a mealtime cooking group for children aged between 8 - 14 years old. Working with a Speech Pathologist, your child will explore a range of
different food types and textures in a safe and supportive environment, while
practicing cooking skills. The aim of the group is to build your child’s confidence and skills around food.

Places are limited to 5, so call 9331 5436 to book your spot.

Weighted pets (toys that have heavy materials, like beads, in them) can be super helpful for our little ones (and big ones) to feel calm. The gentle pressure can help the child to feel grounded and settled.

They are like a weighted blanket but in the form of a furry friend! They can be used in the car, at home, school, on trips or at appointments - because the first step to learning is helping children feel safe and calm.

Our Peach Speech friends in this photo, who we have names Calvin the cat, Broc the croc, Tilly the turtle and Pat the platypus all came from Sensory Tools Australia. https://sensorytools.net/collections/weighted-sensory-animals?srsltid=AfmBOoowuzswWC1QAjjtnPn8w5N3LUFxT5vqpyp7Vpx_y5lB9dvkY-SD

Welcome to the reception space at Peach Speech Pathology.

We actually have 2 waiting areas. In this space, children enjoy colouring at the table, reading a book with their parents or exploring the toys.

Adults can also take a moment off their feet before their sessions. We look forward to seeing you soon!

🌼 Happy International Women’s Day! 🌼

Today we celebrate all the incredible women in our lives.

We celebrate the women who empower communication, the families who inspire us, and the women whose voices make our world richer and more inclusive. At our clinic, we’re privileged to work alongside women who champion communication in all its forms. They cheer on little ones finding their first words, help grow confident communicators, and champion inclusion, accessibility, and connection every step of the way.

Thank you for the strength, care, and expertise you bring to every session. Your impact is felt far beyond the therapy room.

Every March, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month promotes inclusion, understanding, and acceptance for people with disabilities, specifically people with developmental disabilities (such as Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome) in all facets of community life.
Creating an inclusive environment matters because it ensures that everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in society.
It is about removing the structural and social barriers that prevent people from accessing healthcare, education, and employment.
Ways to support:
1. Educating yourself and others about disability rights and the importance of accessibility.
2. Advocating for inclusion in your community or workplace is another powerful step.
3. Actively listening to and amplifying the voices of people with disabilities is indispensable in fostering a more inclusive world.

The way one sound is produced is impacted by the sound that comes before or after it in a word. For example, children who are having trouble getting their tongue high and back to make a clear /r/ sound may benefit from words with /gr/ and /cr/ as the /g/ and /k/ are sounds that have a high back tongue position.

Finding facilitative contexts (carefully chosen words that encourage a clear speech sound) can accelerate therapy progress.
