Movember - its more than just growing a mo', its a chance to have a focused discussion about men's health. 🧔

MEN & SU***DE PREVENTION

Globally, on average 1 man dies by su***de every minute of every day. The sobering facts about men and su***de in Australia:
- 75% of su***des are men
- Su***de is the leading cause of death for men aged 15-44 years.

Movember - its more than just growing a mo', its a chance to have a focused discussion about men's health. 🧔

PROSTATE CANCER

It's the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men. Early detection is key - the survival rate is better than 98% beyond 5 years. If found late, survival rates drop below 26%

When should men get tested:
- 50 years and over
- 45 years and over if a family history of prostate cancer, or are of African or Caribbean descent
- If you notice any change in urinary or sexual function

Not everyone experiences symptoms of prostate cancer. Many times, signs of prostate cancer are first detected by a doctor during a routine check-up.

Book an appointment with your GP if you have any concerns or would like to ask about PSA testing.

Movember...is dedicated to Men's Health 🧔

In particular, mental health and su***de prevention, together with prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Men's health is in crisis. Men are dying on average 6 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons. We can take action for men to live healthier, happier and longer lives.

During November, we are reminding men to talk to their GP about their health, including mental health.

Encourage the men in your life to talk. Movember is a great time to start that conversation.

Summer is certainly on it's way! ☀️ Remember to practice sun safe habits and look out for these 5 burn hazards when enjoying the great outdoors.

Summer in Queensland is known Australia-wide to be hot – we don’t get called the sunshine state for nothing ☀️. As weekends and holidays with family spent outdoors become more frequent, preventing your children from summer burns is important.

Many parents are practising sun safe habits with their children, but there are other burn hazards to look out for during the hotter months 🌡️.

Forming good habits throughout your day is important for taking care of your mental well being.

If you want to try introducing a new, healthy habit into your life, adding it in the morning is a great place to start.

That first hour, straight after wake up is where your behaviour tends to be at its most habitual and ritualised, from what you do when your alarm goes off through to having breakfast, getting the kids ready or heading to work.

Altering these rituals is one of the easiest ways to set up new habits and is also a good opportunity to set the tone of your day. Starting the day making healthier choices makes it easier to keep focused on making better choices for the rest of the day.
Start by making your bed or drinking a large glass of water before a certain time.

Take care of yourself - you are important - remember.
