Looking after your body to improve your performance

As you all know that I love to compete in CrossFit competitions, I am in the middle of the Masters League Games,
This is my way to getting ready for a night at competing in Crossfit.

Find out what is required for you to compete eg whether its wights / running or whatever your sport requires of you,
Start doing those movements with other people that are in the same sport, so you will know whether you will have to push yourself to improve yourself.

A week out for your event push yourself to the max for what is required of you for the event. Then you will have a base to work from eg Weight or speed,

Myself I do the same workout that they post at lest three days before hand, two things if I get a slow time or did not finish the WOD, I can sit down with my training friends and work out how I can get faster,
From the pre comp workout you have got 48 hours of recovery:
Ice bath
Massage
Bars
What ever that will give your body that extra bit to recover,

This what my time and weight was before and on the day.

Eg: my pre comp work out, I had 6mins to get a 2 RM dead lift – I got 115kg
But on the day I got 125kg,
Then the second work out of the night was 21-15-9 ground to over head and Burpees. With a 30kg bar, in the pre comp workout I went over time by four Burpees, and in the comp, I had 40sec to spear.
So work it out how you’re going too do the workout well before, you arrive at the event.
And at the end of the event take your time to recover, what you take,
Me I had to lay on the floor after my last work out of the comp plus give your body a Faver have a massage the next day.

Training after a massage.

You have been dealing with an injury or just doing maintenance for your body, you thought you would have a massage:

My rule of thumb what to do after a massage:

No training after the massage for that day

Straight after the massage drink a 1ltr of water over the next two hours (no alcohol for the day of the massage)

If you live by the sea, take time out and sit in the sea for about half hour (it’s good to get magnesium into your body) or an Epsom salt bath.

Before you go to bed do some stretching for about half hour, (while you’re watching TV)

The next day

So, the next day you’re feeling great and all ready to go do your training for your sport.

First do mobility to warm up your muscles:

Think of this idea:

You train only 10% of what you usually do with your training, because you have got your muscles loosened by the massage, so the idea is you use the light weights workout with correct form to refine the true movements of the work out.

Then the next day go back to your normal training at 100%

Looking after yourself in 2026.

After the New Year has settled down and you are getting ready to go full steam ahead in 2026.

Think of this,
1/ You have taken care of where you work and who you work with, new job or old or a Subbie

2 / you have worked out what you need to do to get fit, for your sport.

3/ you have got transport to get you to work and home, the car needs servicing.

4/ then you always forget about yourself, to maintain stability at your sport you have chosen. It’s like servicing your body with the right type of treatment (a tune up),

So if you are looking to get a massage here are my thoughts.

Someone that trains:

Two to three days a week, you need a massage about once a month.
Four to five days a week, you should have a massage twice a month.
Six days a week as well as competition work for your sport about once-a-week give or take.

But if you have an injury talk to your therapist to work out a treatment plan.
So, plan and book in your treatment with you massage therapist.
