There is finally a simple, no nonsense approach to dietary guidelines: Eat real food.
It’s a message I’ve been advocating for since I studied nutrition back in 1999, but has been lost in the plethora of research done by large food companies and the pharmaceutical industry. We are healthier when we eat more naturally occurring foods, in the least processed state.
Cook meals at home rather than eating out; you don’t have to be a Masterchef to make a nutritious meal, but it will be cheaper than buying readymade foods.
A rule of thumb when it comes to shopping at the supermarket: fill most of your trolley with items from the outer rim of the store, and fewer from the inner aisles.
