NATURES WISDOM
We spend so much time efforting. Constantly pushing through to the next thing. I will just get this finished then I will rest. I will just get to this place then I will take that holiday. Iβm just keeping my head above water but I canβt stop, I have to get this done. When I was completing my PhD I had set a deadline for myself to finish a particular section by a certain time for my supervisors to read and provide feedback. There was no pressure from them to have the section completed by this time. I had set my own deadline. I spent a full day and night (literally 27 hours) with minimal breaks and pushed through. I felt a great sense of achievement and then crashed. My nervous system was already compromised as I worked a full time job as a lecturer at a University on top of completing my PhD studies among other things. It was insane and it caused a mild neurological injury.
Since moving away from academia in a full time capacity (not sure you ever fully leave) and immersing myself in nature in a more intentional way by moving to Amamoor Creek where nature is literally on my doorstep, I have learnt a lot about the benefits of being in nature and learning from the nature spirits.
Spending time in nature as an intentional healing modality has reset my nervous system in a way I would not have believed possible. What I have learnt from being in and with nature is to go slow to go fast. Small consistent breaks sitting in nature, drinking in the essence of its nectar can offer the energy, vitality and healing needed to get everything you need to do done without efforting. Being still allows the nervous system to soften, you come into a space of calm. New clarity is available to you which leads to making less mistakes. New insights you hadnβt considered emerge and things just feel easeful. Spend time in nature wherever and whenever the opportunity presents itself. Intentional practices like sit spotting or journey quests in nature can be profoundly rewarding. You donβt usually have to look far to find a patch of green to just be for a little while.
Give yourself that grace πππΏ
