I have well and truly landed in Indonesia and so will take the rest of my trip offline in this space. If you are reaching out for classes or information please contact carly@omniyoga.com.au as I’ll still be in my inbox.

As I come to take this time off I recognise that this year has been the hardest year of my life, my nervous system has stretched beyond what I thought I was ever capable of holding. I don’t share everything here, because when I move through the really hard stuff it can’t also be on display for other’s opinions or judgement while I’m nurturing the most tender parts of myself.

But I will share a story: today I fended off a monkey. A pretty decent sized one at that. It yawned first to reveal long fangs and then charged. The Indonesian guy working at the cafe bolted so without really thinking I picked up my empty coconut and lobbed it at the monkey. It scattered but returned so I packed up my s**t and left before it got another chance to lunge. The monkey kind of feels like 2022. A lot of really gnarly s**t coming at me, a lot of nervous system activation and a lot of reacting and responding to the best of my ability. So here’s to leaning into more nervous system decompression and one of my favourite Clarissa Pinkola Estés quotes:

“I hope you will go out and let stories, that is life, happen to you, and that you will work with these stories from your life -not someone else’s life- water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom. That is the work. The only work.”

As Estés says, I hope you will go out and let life happen to you, for while I’m away life will be happening to me (although I hope it involves less monkeys).

Let the end of the year and the beginning of another be whatever you need it to be - see you in January x

I have broken up with midwifery. What a relief to write those words. After the last six months I have moved through second-hand trauma, a returning bout of depression and a gut wrenching sadness that she is “not the one.” The grief in realising midwifery is not what I want it to be, what it’s meant to be, what it should be, was almost debilitating. But through working with my mentors, and a gentleness with myself I feel as though I’m in a place of acceptance and now, even excitement for what’s to come. I’ll still be working in this space of birth, but differently.

I’m excited to be unclenched from the claws of governance. To breathe openly. I’m excited to work with women, and pregnancy and birth and postpartum in a way that puts women at the centre of their experience. There is so much to be said here, but for now, as this semester ends and this phase of my life closes an acknowledgment feels like enough.

Artwork: by the incredible who has a way of creating that speaks to my soul and somehow captures exactly how I feel.

A chance to journey and explore a deeper connection to your self, body and mind in preparation for the rite of passage that is child birth. We explore a range of themes and topics from breathing to matrescence.

Pregnancy Yoga and Mindfulness 18 May - 15 June at Yaroomba/Coolum

There is SO much information out there when it comes to pregnancy, birth and postpartum. For years, my “teaching” (I prefer the words guiding or offering as they feel closer to what I provide) has been of one where I am not the “expert.” I may know ways in which the body moves and breathes but I will emphasise over and over and over again that you are the expert of your own experience. All of which I offer is a suggestion, a suggestion to explore different bodily sensations and ways of being, a container to return home. But it’s your discernment that is so vital in acknowledging, connecting to and utilising. Feeling what is a yes in the body and what is a no. Bringing it back to you.

Pregnancy Yoga & Mindfulness | 13 Apr - 11 May

A 5 week term includes movement for pregnancy, labour positions, breathing techniques for labour and birth and pelvic floor education. We also explore topics of matrescence (maiden to mother), the role of oxytocin in birth and how to optimise pleasure, tuning into your intuition and using your voice - honouring this transformation as a rite of passage.

The discussions that are being shared before, during and after pregnancy yoga classes make me so stoked on community, the village, womanhood and sisters. So much wisdom and knowledge that gets passed around from those who have walked the path of birth, and so many questions from those who are nearing it. Fears surface and acknowledgements are given. Thoughts arise and perspectives are illuminated. Women learning from women, how it was for so many generations. How beautiful it is to see it returning ✨

B R A I N 🧠

BRAIN is a way to help encourage women in the birth space to make an informed decision. This may help you to choose the setting/environment you want to birth in (home/hospital/birth centre), help make decisions before birth (e.g., vitamin K, wait for white etc.) or help make decisions during birth (accepting or declining interventions). We all have different risk management systems, what is the best decision for you may be the worst decision for someone else (and vice versa). That’s why intuition is such an important element in BRAIN. Get all the information and education (benefits, risks and alternatives), check in with your gut feeling and sense of intuition, and decide if this decision has to be made now.

I bow my head in reverence when I approach the birth altar and bare witness to the portal as it widens. The sacrifice that a mother makes, the path of fire she must walk to burn away the maiden that once was. I bend my knees in worship when I approach the birth altar and bare witness to the portal as it deepens. The rituals that manage the wildness, the metamorphosis that unravels on the other side.

Birth is sacred. All birth.
