I have well and truly landed in Indonesia and so will take the rest of my trip offline in this space. If you are reaching out for classes or information please contact carly@omniyoga.com.au as I’ll still be in my inbox.
As I come to take this time off I recognise that this year has been the hardest year of my life, my nervous system has stretched beyond what I thought I was ever capable of holding. I don’t share everything here, because when I move through the really hard stuff it can’t also be on display for other’s opinions or judgement while I’m nurturing the most tender parts of myself.
But I will share a story: today I fended off a monkey. A pretty decent sized one at that. It yawned first to reveal long fangs and then charged. The Indonesian guy working at the cafe bolted so without really thinking I picked up my empty coconut and lobbed it at the monkey. It scattered but returned so I packed up my s**t and left before it got another chance to lunge. The monkey kind of feels like 2022. A lot of really gnarly s**t coming at me, a lot of nervous system activation and a lot of reacting and responding to the best of my ability. So here’s to leaning into more nervous system decompression and one of my favourite Clarissa Pinkola Estés quotes:
“I hope you will go out and let stories, that is life, happen to you, and that you will work with these stories from your life -not someone else’s life- water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom. That is the work. The only work.”
As Estés says, I hope you will go out and let life happen to you, for while I’m away life will be happening to me (although I hope it involves less monkeys).
Let the end of the year and the beginning of another be whatever you need it to be - see you in January x
