IF YOU WISH TO KNOW MORE ABOUT PAD or Assistance Dogs in general, scroll through the page and watch the videos provided, or go to the website for further information. PLEASE BE AWARE:
PAD has a Recommended and Accepted Breed Policy. This means your dog MAY NOT be accepted by PAD even if another organization permits that particular breed/ xbreed. PAD does not tolerate bullying, discrimination or the non-compliance with public access standards for its Teams. PAD has strict Codes, Policies and Procedures and By-Laws, Handlers are required to sign agreements to these. Any Handler not meeting standard or abiding by any of these may be re-registered without appeal or refund. PAD is not for everyone and everyone is not for PAD. We are ok with that. PAD is here to support those who are willing to meet the expectations of the Association and the its current Teams. PAD Handlers are not members of the Association, they are registered under it. The Committee Members are volunteers. The Administrator is a volunteer. Please understand the importance of reading all the documents on the website, before lodging an Inquiry with PAWSOME ASSISTANCE DOGS

PAD is a very compliance driven Association.
It is important you consider what you are committing to, BEFORE signing application forms.

As we say
PAD is not for everyone
And
Everyone is not suited to PAD

It is extremely rare for a Team to be de-registered because of the dog’s behaviour. It is often due to the Handler’s unwillingness or inability to maintain compliance with ALL the policies & procedures..

You will be asked to declare that you have READ, UNDERSTOOD, and AGREE with each requirement.

If you then fail to meet that standard or expect to argue against the policy, for your dog, you don’t meet compliance & will be de-registered.
NO APPEAL. NO EXPLANATION. NO REFUND.

PAD is a family. We fight for family doing the correct thing.
We do not waste time & resources on those who are not.

Please educate yourself on how we operate FIRST.
It will save us all a lot of time & stress in the future if you do. 💙🦮💙

Tolerance and Patience are keys to creating a united PAD family.
PAD strives to provide Advice, Support, Mentoring and Assistance as an Association supporting Registered Self Training Handlers in a family environment.
PAD will provide advice regarding the suitability of a dog to the Handler’s needs but does not supply or pre-train dogs. PAD assists Handlers to achieve these goals for themselves.
PAD provides a community, and mentorship, to support Handlers: -
• via regular local meetups (subject to Handler location) and
• online through its website, as well as
• social media platforms such as the PAD Facebook Closed Support Group.
Some guidelines: -
1. PAD provides support to Affiliate Handlers accessing their own dog and with any prior approvals necessary for Residential, Education or Work environments. This is done by becoming an Affiliate until there is a dog to be assessed as part of the Handler Team. There is a Fee involved in becoming an Affiliate equal to half of the current Registration Fee. It is non-refundable if the Handler chooses not to proceed for any reason other than exceptional circumstances. PAD’s time in assisting Affiliate Handlers is valuable and time consuming. You are required to complete the Application process to become an Affiliate Handler.
2. FEES: Registration Fees are payable once the Executive Committee has confirmed acceptance of your application. The Application can only proceed once all documentation has been received and an interview and assessment have been concluded. As stated an Administration Fee applies to the Affliate application, which is applied to the Registration Fee provided you proceed with the application.
A Special Circumstances Exemption may apply at the discretion of the Executive Committee, as to what portion of the Affiliate Fee may be refunded, or not.
From July 2024 until further notice, the REGISTRATION FEES ARE $1000, from January 2025 until further notice, the ANNUAL FEE is $750. Becoming a PAD Registered Handler is a process. Inquiring or Applying does not guarantee acceptance as there are criteria relating to both Handler and Dog.
3. The Application Process includes
1. Via the INQUIRY FORM the inquirer must provide basic details of phone, email, location, need for the Assistance Dog, and if your current dog is a rescue, how old it is, and at what age it came into your care.
2. There will be a Personal contact/interview over the phone and/ or in person, or by the use of social media platforms.
3. Assessment of your current dog, or Identification of a suitable dog at your own cost.
4. The Formal Application Process.

FORMAL APPLICATION PROCESS

b. FORM 2 - Medical Confirmation of your eligibility for an Assistance Dog

IF YOU ARE FOUND TO NOT BE IN COMPLIANCE OR SUITED TO THE PAD FAMILY ETHOS DURING THIS TIME, YOU WILL BE DE-REGISTERED, WITH OUT REFUND, APPEAL OR EXPLANATION.
i. You will be able to progress through to Public Access Training and Certification, when it is shown that as a Handler Team, you and your dog are ready
j. You will be assessed for Public Access Training and Certification. Registration, and Public Access Certification, are both for a Probationary period of 12 months. After a minimum of two years, you may be invited to be assessed for 3- year certification. Approval for this is at the Executive Committee discretion. You may be required to train for a further 12-month period. At the end of that time, if you are not to Public Access 3-year Standard, it will be deemed that you and your dog, as a Team, do not meet the PAD requirements for Registration
k. All Teams are Public Assess monitored and assessed a minimum of three times per year for the duration of their affiliation with PAD
l. All Teams are required to have active interaction/communication with the Association a minimum of eight times per year, primarily via meetings and Facebook, as well as digital training logs.
m. If your application is denied, you will be advised. There is no appeal process for rejection of an application. PAD holds the right to deny registration at its own discretion without explanation or justification

There is no appeal, and no requirement for the Executive to explain its decision.
PAD Handlers must not use any abusive, or fear inducing, training methods or equipment on or with their Assistance Dog. To do so will result in immediate deregistration, without refund. No aggressive, punishment focused equipment or methods are permitted. Any abuse or neglect of the dog, in its non-working environment will also lead to immediate de-registration, without appeal or explanation. IF IN DOUBT ASK FOR A RULING.
All adult Handlers must be eligible to apply for a Blue Card (Queensland’s Working with Children Check), or equivalent in the relevant state, and provide proof of application if requested by the Executive Committee.

REMEMBER KNOW NO in November. No-vember is to remind the public about ASSISTANCE DOGS WORKING, & saying NO. DON’T PAT ME. DON’T DISTRACT ME. I AM WORKING.
Remember KNOW NO in November.

PUPPY THOUGHTS: When we look at you, we are not trying to get your attention. We are watching for you for our Human. They don’t like people coming up behind them. Surprises can frighten them, and really trigger some past terrors. My job is to make sure they are safe, and keep you away. So if I look at you, please don’t talk to me, or think I want a pat. I want you to stay away. I want my human to feel safe. I want to do my job, which is looking after them. I have to focus for that, so please don’t distract me. It’s very selfish, if you think you have a right to talk to me. You don’t NEED me. My human does though. You just WANT my attention. My human NEEDS my attention. Please let me work, without interrupting me. Thank you

Remember KNOW NO in no-vember

Please don’t ask us to choose!

Because asking us to be without our Assistance Dog, is a totally unreasonable and impossible request - the dog will be the priority every time, and if you care about the person, you won’t ask them to choose anyway!

No, we can’t leave our dog at home because it doesn’t suit you for us to have it with us 🤔😢
It’s not an optional extra, it’s a medical aide

Remember KNOW NO in November

PuppyThoughts: “It’s very hard being a good boy. It makes people want to Pat me & Talk to me. But if I pay attention to them, it makes me a bad boy. Please don’t distract me when I am looking after my Human. They need me to pay them attention. You don’t” 👌😢🐕💙

REMEMBER KNOW - NO - in November.
kNOw-vember is to remind the public about ASSISTANCE DOGS WORKING, & saying NO. DON’T PAT ME. DON’T DISTRACT ME. I AM WORKING.
Remember KNOW - NO in November.
PUPPY THOUGHTS: Sometimes I am lying quietly at my Handler’s feet, listening & watching to make sure they are ok, but then some silly person or child comes up and tries to talk to me or pat me. I am wondering why do they do that! I was concentrating on my human. I didn’t pay them any attention. Why did they think they could distract me? Why don’t people leave me alone to do my job? I am a working dog, not their pet! I think my Handler doesn’t know why either. Sometimes I hear them talking to other Assistance Dog Humans, about how upset they get when someone doesn’t respect me. I like that about my Human. They care about me, even when silly public people do the wrong thing”

KNOW No-vember is to remind the public about ASSISTANCE DOGS WORKING, & saying NO. DON’T PAT ME. DON’T DISTRACT ME. I AM WORKING.
Remember KNOW NO in November

PuppyThoughts: “I think maybe humans don’t really pay much attention. They look, but they don’t see! They think I must be a Guide Dog. But all my working gear says Assistance Dog. I do guide my Handler in lots of ways, but they aren’t blind. Often they have invisible disabilities. It’s not them I am helping see. It’s YOU! Can you see? I am an ASSISTANCE DOG. That means I am helping them, so please don’t interrupt me just because you want to pat me or talk to me. I have a job to do. But it’s got nothing to do with you.” 💙🐕💙
