Children’s Health: A Parent’s Guide to Pharmacy Support

Common Childhood Health Concerns

Colds & flu

– Frequent in childcare or school settings

– Pharmacists can recommend chest rubs or child‑safe decongestants

Allergies

– Includes hay fever or food sensitivities

– Treatment options: nasal sprays, eye drops, oral antihistamines

– Pharmacists advise on interactions with existing medications

Fever

– Often indicative of infection

– Pharmacists guide on age‑appropriate paracetamol or ibuprofen

– Keep child home until fever subsides; see a doctor if it persists beyond 48 hours or worsens

Skin concerns

– Covers nappy rash, eczema, etc.

– Gentle, effective topical solutions available

– In some areas, pharmacists can prescribe topical antibiotics for school sores (impetigo)
