Japan has one of the world's highest average life expectancies, for both men and women. There are many reasons for this, but three stand out. One is the habit, instilled in childhood, of regular daily exercise. Since the 1920s, a popular radio broadcast guides early-risers through a system of calisthenic exercises set to music.
