About Corowa LHAC
LHAC Role

Committees are made up of volunteer members who represent the cross section of their local community in age, gender, professional and cultural background. Included in membership is one clinical representative (not employed by MLHD or MPHN) and one peer nominated staff representative. Meetings are attended by Corowa Health Services Facility Manager and Cluster manager for the purpose of providing reporting, data and information. The LHAC acts as a link between the community and the local health service and can contribute to the following primary functions:

Advocate for patients/carers and local community needs – represent your community’s needs and provide feedback to The Partners about ideas, concerns and interests of the local community. Keep the community informed – play an important part in the connection, community feedback and engagement of MLHD facilities and MPHN to the local community. Promote Health and Wellbeing – raise awareness in the local community about health services available and help to promote healthy lifestyle choices within the community. Seek support for initiatives which promote and educate on health and wellbeing. Service Planning – take part in planning and development of health services by being involved in consultations and providing feedback during service planning. Education – to raise awareness, inform and promote local and district wide initiatives and activities

Projects - LHACs are encouraged to establish their own agreed local priorities and projects for the year. It is recommended that these align to the directions of the Health District and Primary Health Network and be supported by the Facility Manager. Networking - LHACs are encouraged to share their strategies, learnings and experiences with other LHACs across the district.

A great activity for the Corowa area.

Are you interested in leading a walking group?

Walking just 30 minutes a day can provide so many benefits. It can reduce your risk of heart disease, it improves your wellbeing, helps you feel better, gives you more energy, reduces stress, and helps you sleep better.

Walking is an activity where you can either challenge yourself or take it easy and enjoy the sights and sounds around you.

Walking in a group is also a great way to connect with your community and make new friends.

The MLHD Healthy Ageing Health Promotion team, in partnership with the Heart Foundation, is looking for walking group organisers across the district. Being a walk organiser is easy; plan the walk, record who attends, and let the Heart Foundation do the rest.

If you would like to become a walk organiser, or seek more information, please contact the Health Promotion team at mlhd-exercise@health.nsw.gov.au

Influenza (flu) is decreasing but remains at a moderate level of activity, which is unusual for this time of the year. COVID-19 and RSV remain at a low level.

It's not too late to vaccinate for flu. This is particularly important if you are travelling to the Northern Hemisphere soon, where winter flu season is approaching.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over 6 months, especially those at higher risk of severe illness including people aged 65 years and older.

And remember these top tips to protect yourself and others:
- stay up to date with your recommended influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations
- stay home if you are sick and wear a mask if you need to leave home
- get together outdoors or in large, well-ventilated spaces and avoid crowded spaces
- consider taking a rapid antigen test before visiting those more vulnerable
- make a plan with your doctor if you're at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 or influenza about what to do if you get sick, including what test to take, and discussing if you are eligible for antiviral medicine
- practice good general hygiene, like regular handwashing.

Spring is upon us. Make sure you have your medication close to you when you are out and about.

Spring is upon us. Make sure you have your medication close to you when you are out and about.

Spring can be a dangerous season for asthma and hayfever.

In the Riverina, increased rye grass pollen levels combined with spring thunderstorms increase the risk of a rare, but dangerous thunderstorm asthma event.

If you have asthma or hayfever, now is the time to visit your GP or pharmacist, update your asthma action plan and make sure your medications are up to date.

You can also register to receive a local alert when there is an increased risk of a thunderstorm asthma event - to receive SMS alerts, text the word Asthma to 0417 115 876.
