This is a paragraph I copyed from a post and wanted to share. It shows that we are on the right path with our longer cut chaff as oppose to short cut.
To Chaff or Not to Chaff? That is the question!
Pros and Cons of Feeding Chaffđ´
According to Dr John Kohnke, feeding an equal volume of long chop chaff with your horseâs concentrates (grain feeds) can increase the chewing time and optimise digestive attack and energy uptake from the small intestine. However, feeding more than 1.5 times the volume of chaff (especially short chop) to concentrates can reduce digestive efficiency as the chaff is not chewed properly and smothers the starch, protein and fat digestive enzyme attack. This moves the feed bulk through the small intestine more rapidly (up to 45 cm per minute), reducing the âdwell timeâ and overall digestive processes.
