CONTINENCE: For Women
Unlike incontinence, continence involves maintaining control over our bodily functions. For women, this control is largely dependent on the strength of our pelvic floor.
The pelvic floor is the only thing supporting our internal organs from below. Women are often advised to do pelvic floor exercises to enhance their ability to hold urine. However, many of us focus on vaginal contractions, which don't directly help in controlling the flow of urine. No matter how strong these contractions are, they won’t save you in moments of urgency.
Instead, here's a more effective approach:
1. Identify your p***c bone and your belly button.
2. Draw an imaginary straight line between the two.
3. Visualize a straw along this line and focus on squeezing the muscle as if you’re squashing the straw.
This muscle contraction, which may feel like zipping up, is located at the front of your body and can help stop urine flow during urgent moments.
Try this technique. Our bodies are quite amazing, but we're not always taught how to use them in ways that enhance well-being and maintain proper anatomical alignment. With the right techniques, our muscles can work as they should.
