Our first little baby of our brand new Maternity Unit!!

A massive congratulations to Jasmine and Cameron on the safe arrival of baby Julien 👶🏻

We are beyond excited with this new chapter in pregnancy and birthing care of our local women and their families 🙌🏻⭐️

We have the most wonderful news from Cowra! 💛👶

We are delighted to announce the arrival of the very first baby to be born at the new Cowra Hospital since it opened its doors last week – little Julien.

Safe, healthy and already stealing hearts, this little history-maker arrived at about 10.30am last Saturday, measuring 50cm and weighing a little over 3kg.

Julien’s arrival is a beautiful milestone for first-time parents Cameron and Jasmine, who are over the moon as you’d expect, and for our new hospital and the community.

A huge congratulations to Cameron, Jasmine and their entire family, and a big thank you to our wonderful maternity and nursing teams who helped bring this special little guy into the world.

Exciting news - the new, $110.2 million Cowra Hospital has formally opened its doors to patients and the community! 🥳

After years of planning, collaboration, dedication and hard work, at 8am this morning the purpose-built hospital officially began a new chapter in local healthcare for Cowra and the region.

All existing services have moved into the new hospital while some new and enhanced services, including the hospital's new CT scanner, will begin operating in January as part of staged opening.

This is a huge milestone for the new hospital, and our entire District and most importantly, the people of Cowra and its surrounding areas. Thank you to everyone who has had input and played a role in this project.

As work now focuses on the demolition of the existing hospital, construction of the new carpark and landscaping, the community will use the new emergency department entrance (off Brisbane Street) to access all services.

We ask that everyone please follow the temporary signage on site, and encourage people to allow additional travel time when visiting the new hospital as car parking on site remains limited as work continues.

October is Pregnancy and Infant loss awareness month and we remember all those babies who were lost far too soon and their families 🤍

If you need anyone to talk to, our Maternity Unit is always open and there are so many support options available

Today is International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Day, which recognises the importance of staying alcohol-free during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and planning a pregnancy.

When a pregnant person drinks alcohol, their baby does too. Drinking alcohol can have serious impacts on how a baby grows and can cause FASD. FASD can have lifelong impacts on a person’s learning and behaviour.

Every pregnancy is different and there are a range of factors that influence how a baby grows. The safest thing for your baby is to not drink at all, but it is never too late to stop drinking during your pregnancy.

For more information, visit https://yourroom.health.nsw.gov.au/

Help is available - contact Alcohol & Drug Information Support (ADIS). You can call them anytime on 1800 250 015, or talk online via webchat 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday https://yourroom.health.nsw.gov.au/getting-help/Pages/ADIS-Web-Chat.aspx

ADIS is completely free and confidential.

Western Sydney is currently conducting research to better understand women’s experiences with breastfeeding with the goal of improving breastfeeding support services across NSW.

If you have had a baby in a NSW public hospital in the last five years we would like your help to improve breastfeeding support.

Please complete our online survey looking at breastfeeding support and assessment during pregnancy. It takes about 5-10 minutes to compete and is anonymous.

The survey is part of a research project that aims to improve pregnancy breastfeeding support.

Here is the link to the survey with more information:

The research project is being led by clinical midwife consultant and researcher Dr Sarah Melov from Western Sydney Local History District. If you have any questions about this project, you can email her on sarah.melov@health.nsw.gov.au

Happy International Midwives Day to us!! 💜

We are incredibly lucky and privileged to be part of our Cowra community where we are present and can support in each pregnancy and newborn journey for our local families. We love seeing families come back to see us for more babies! 🙌🏻 🤰🤱

Also a shout out to our dedicated midwifery student training program where we grow and nurture our own midwives, just like our brand new Graduate Midwife Erin, pictured below with newborn baby Harrison. 👶🏻

We could simply not do without these budding new, enthusiastic and passionate midwives as well as our midwives with experience and passion to show them just how special rural midwifery is!
