The chill has definitely arrived early, it has felt like winter for a month already! Perhaps we're in for a snowy winter!

I'm harvesting in my garden this morning - there are so many rosehips this year, big ripe and lush. They're really, really high in vitamin C, much more than the known usual fruit such as oranges. I sometimes make rosehip jam or rosehip syrup, and as lovely as those are, I'm trying not to put so much sugar out into the world, so I'm just freezing this year's harvest and I'll add them to my cooking concoctions as I go.

Of course I'll be adding them to my potent elderberry elixer, which is known by a few people around here.

It's not only the rosehips that are early this year, the wild produce is too, such as the Tassie Mountain Pepper Berries (T. lanceolata). I've trays of the wild pepper berries drying at the moment. I also keep some frozen, fresh, which is lovely to use in cooking as they're plump and soft compared to the hard little dried up ones that can be cracked in a pepper grinder.

Anyway, if you're planning a trip to Cradle, you just might be enjoying the snow early this year!
