Hawthorn - Crataegus spp. from the Greek kratos meaning strength and akis meaning sharp.

The leaves, flowers and or berries can be used to support heart health and in Western herbal medicine the berries are used to support circulation.

Hawthorn can be used for:
Mild congestive heart failure
Cardiac arrythmias
Angina
Heart attack prevention
Cardiomyopathy
Impaired peripheral circulation
Buerger's disease
Hypertension
Palpitations
Mild anxiety

After menopause women loose the cardioprotective effect of oestrogen making heart and bone health a priority. Hawthorn can also be used for hot flushes.
