When we are born, we don’t hold beliefs or judgments about the world or ourselves. As we grow and live, our experiences shape us and start to make judgments about who we are and the way we fit in and relate to the world around us. Our inner child may still desire connection but our adult self may be striving for protection, creating barriers in our relationships.

Veronica Johnston of Real World Psychology

I am a registered psychologist currently practising in Caulfield. I offer therapeutic services for children and adolescents, and have a passion for women’s mental health, particularly anxiety/depression and the perinatal period. As a passionate advocate for mental health and well-being, I possess a warm, empathetic and supportive style where I aim to help clients explore their challenges and strengths in order to maximise their potential and find meaning in their life. Clients are in a position where they feel empowered to share their experiences in a safe environment and are encouraged to set and work towards clear therapeutic goals.

My approach incorporates evidence-based interventions that may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Mindful Self-Compassion, all of which are integrated and tailored to meet every individual’s needs and goals. These therapies focus on building awareness of your thoughts and feelings and how these manifest in both helpful and unhelpful intra- and inter-personal behaviours. My ultimate goal is to leave you feeling capable of: managing challenging emotions, acknowledging and re-framing unhelpful thinking patterns and altering behaviours that are no longer serving you.
