This is what a naturopathic approach to skin looks like.
✨✨ Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome has long been poorly named, but it’s officially just been renamed to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

Did you know there’s free resources on my website? 🤍
I’ve just added a new guide all about what and how to fully investigate thyroid in bloodwork.
If you’ve had suspicions about your thyroid, this can be really insightful.
Messages are open if you wanted to chat further about this 🤍✨

What I’ve blended for your skin this week

•Licorice and peony-a botanical dream team
•Cinnamon - for blood glucose support
•Saw palmetto - androgen dominant acne
•Gotu kola - specifically for tissue repair

With skin, my initial focus is generally starting with nutraceuticals and compounded formulas (think DIM, Cal-d-glucarate, myo-inositol, PHGG)

Herbs play a brilliant support, once the causative reason has been identified and pathways are restored.

Skin is of course highly nuanced but if the fundamentals aren’t there, the herbs can’t kick the goal home.

Nine weeks into running my own practice and the truest measure of success has surprised me.

There’s more laughter in the house. I’m doing more home cooking. Cleaning out cupboards and wardrobes I’d been avoiding for years. Eating lunch in the sunshine. Treatment plans written slowly, with focus, for clients I genuinely look forward to seeing and share laughter with during their consults.

Some of the most complex cases I’ve seen in my entire career have walked through my door these past nine weeks, and everything just seems much more manageable when your nervous system is calm.

If your nervous system hasn’t had a moment of quiet in a long time, that’s worth paying attention to. Some things that may help in the short term:
• Weightless by Marconi Union (look it up on YouTube, shown to meaningfully reduce anxiety in listeners)
• Passionflower, Zizyphus, Kava, Lemon balm
• GABA or L-theanine
• Protein at every meal, ideally 30g
• Reading a fiction book (I have plenty, always happy to loan)

And if stress is your everyday, let’s talk properly.

🍂🍁 Colder frosty Autumn mornings have me off the smoothies and seeking warmer breakfasts. This baked beans recipe is such a go-to for warm breakfast and for bringing to dinners and BBQs. Vegans and carnivores alike love it.
Recipe below 🤍

Ingredients:
3 chopped garlic cloves
2 cans cannellini beans
1/2 a 700ml bottle of passata
2 tsp broth powder (I use Nutra-Organics)
2 sprigs of rosemary
1/2 tbs maple syrup
1 tbs tamari
1 tbs Dijon or American mustard
2 tbsp smoked paprika
Method:
Sauté garlic in olive oil.
Stir beans into garlic oil for a few minutes.
Add passata and all other ingredients, mixing the broth powder into 200ml of hot water and add.
Stir and simmer on a low heat, covered, for 45 minutes.
Can serve with an egg on top, grated parmesan or nutritional yeast. Serve with crunchy sourdough toast.

When thyroid questions start coming up in our work together, this is the panel I privately prescribe.
It gives us a much fuller picture than routine testing alone, and my goal is always to catch dysfunction long before it shows up on a standard thyroid screen, which is typically just TSH.
Happy to help guide how we can make this happen for you 🤍🌿

Pages from the sketchbooks of Ariyoshi Kondo, Edo-period Japan (1830–1850).
Seeing herbs we use in naturopathy in historical texts is like spotting old friends; Peony, Iris, Hypericum, Thistle, Magnolia, Pomegranate.
Still in my dispensary today 🌿🤍

Tea leaves dancing 🍃

🍵Morning- Simple & steadfast nettle. Nutrient rich, and nourishing.
🍵Nighttime- Synergistic heroes for insulin resistance and PCOS. Licorice and spearmint. With some rose petals.
Rose petals don’t have any real naturopathic action- but anytime I can add them to a tea blend, they go in.

A few botanical plants around the house.
🌿 St. John’s Wort
🌿 Ginkgo
🌿 Chamomile
🌿 Holy Basil

Which would incidentally make a beautiful tonic for mood, stress and focus.
