🚨 Exciting Update from Atypical Farm 🚨

Due to increased demand, we’re excited to share that from April 27th, Atypical Farm will now be running programs 6 days a week!

🌿 New Operating Days & Hours:
Monday – Saturday
9:00am – 6:30pm daily

We will be offering both small group programs and 1:1 supports from the farm across all operating days — giving more flexibility for families and more opportunities for participants to access our unique, capacity-building environment.

We keep our groups intentionally small to ensure every participant receives the level of support they need — creating a space that is inclusive, safe, and genuinely person-centred.

For us, it’s never been about numbers — it’s about quality, connection, and meaningful outcomes. Every program is designed with purpose, supporting independence, social connection, and real-life skill development.

At Atypical Farm, our day programs are designed for more than just “something to do” — they’re built to support real-life skills, confidence, and meaningful connection.

Every day on the farm is an opportunity to develop skills that translate into everyday life, future pathways, and greater independence.

Participants are actively involved in cooking, farm tasks, animal care, and practical projects — developing routine, responsibility, and transferable skills.

🍳 Cooking & Daily Living Skills
From preparing meals to working together in the kitchen, participants build confidence in essential life skills that support independence at home and in the community.

🐄 Hands-On Farm & Animal Engagement
Working with animals supports emotional regulation, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose — with many participants taking pride in their roles on the farm.

🤝 Genuine Social Connection
This isn’t forced group interaction — it’s natural, supported connection. Participants build friendships, communication skills, and confidence in social environments.

🌿 Mental Wellbeing Through Nature
Being outdoors, working with hands, and engaging in meaningful tasks supports regulation, reduces stress, and improves overall wellbeing.

🛠 Pathways, Purpose & Skill Development
We focus on building toward something — whether that’s increased independence, community participation, or future employment pathways.

🌿 Introducing the Atypical Pathways Program 🌿

We’re excited to introduce Atypical Pathways, a new mentoring and community participation program supporting young people aged 12 – 25 living with disability and complex behavioural needs.

At Atypical, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to build confidence, connection and a sense of purpose.

Through meaningful relationships with mentors and support staff, participants are supported to develop:

✔ Confidence and self-belief
✔ Emotional resilience
✔ Social connection
✔ Life skills and independence
✔ Positive identity and direction

Supports may take place:

🐐 At Atypical Farm in Cranbourne South
🌏 In the community
🏡 In-home

Activities may include:

🔥 Animal care and farm projects
🎣 Fishing, outdoor adventures and fitness
🍳 Cooking and life skills
🛠 Hands-on projects and practical skills
💬 Mentoring conversations and guidance

Participants are thoughtfully matched with staff based on their interests and support needs, with gender-matched mentoring available where appropriate.

Programs operate daily from 10am – 6pm.

At Atypical, we walk alongside young people as they discover their strengths and create their own pathway forward.

🌿✨ Collage of the Week – Farm Fun! ✨🌿

Last week on the farm was packed with creativity, laughter, learning, and hands-on adventures — and what a beautiful week it was! 💛

Our participants had an absolute blast:
🌱 Making grass heads and watching their creations come to life
🧵 Designing colourful string art masterpieces
🍃 Crafting nature mobiles with treasures from the outdoors
🍅 Becoming gurus in the garden while picking ripe tomatoes and cucumbers
🎨 Getting creative with chalk painting and outdoor hut building
🐐 Enjoying special animal adventures with our furry and feathered friends

These activities are thoughtfully designed to build functional skills, support communication, develop emotional regulation, and provide meaningful sensory input in alignment with participants’ NDIS goals.
Moments like these are what Atypical Farm is all about — connection, creativity, confidence, and community, all nurtured through nature 🌿

🌟 Celebrating Our Incredible Team! 🌟

We’re so proud to share that some of our amazing Atypical staff have officially completed Level 2 of their Auslan studies 🙌 — with more assessments happening next week for the rest of the team!

This milestone means so much to us, especially because it’s been supported and encouraged by members of our Deaf community and respected Elders, who shared how impressed they were with the growth, dedication, and progress they’ve seen. That recognition is something we truly value and are deeply grateful for 💛

As part of their assessments, each student prepared and delivered a 5 minute signed story demonstrating key language skills including:
✨ Fingerspelling
✨ Role shift
✨ Depicting Signs (DS)
✨ HOLME principles
✨ Non-Manual Features (NMF)

To say we’re proud is an understatement. Watching our team grow in confidence, communication, and cultural understanding has been incredible. Every step they take strengthens our commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and truly meeting our community where they are.

Well done team — we can’t wait to celebrate the next group soon! 🤟💛

What a beautiful week we shared together at Atypical Farm 💛

Week 2 was all about connection — welcoming both new and returning participants into a space where friendships could grow naturally through play, shared experiences and hands-on farm life.

From water play and summer cooling stations 💦
To creative sensory fun like finger knitting, chalk art and slime ✨
To gentle animal interactions and egg collecting 🐓
To nature walks, scavenger hunts and muddy hands 🌱

Every activity was designed to be inclusive, engaging and supportive — allowing each person to participate at their own pace.

We saw:
🤝 New friendships forming
🌻 Confidence growing
🎨 Fine motor skills strengthening
🐐 Beautiful moments of calm connection with animals
💬 Social skills developing through collaborative, choice-based activities

Summer on the farm isn’t just about fun (although there was plenty of that!) — it’s about creating meaningful experiences where people feel safe, included and empowered.

With shaded rest spaces, hydration reminders, visual supports and caring staff alongside them, our participants were supported to explore, regulate, create and connect in ways that felt right for them.

We are so proud of the bonds formed this week — between peers, between staff and participants, and between our community and the land that holds us 🌿✨
