“How was school?”

It comes from such a loving place — curiosity, care, wanting to connect.

But for many children (especially neurodivergent kids), end-of-day questions can feel overwhelming after hours of sensory, social and cognitive load.

This video gently reminds us that connection doesn’t always start with questions. Sometimes it starts with presence, space, and meeting our child where they’re at. 💛

Preparing neurodivergent kids for the ‘real world’ often really means preparing them to survive systems built on narrow, stereotypical norms.

This post from NeuroWild invites us to pause and reflect: whose ‘real world’ are we talking about — and at what cost?

Our role isn’t to mould children to fit rigid expectations, but to honour who they are, support their nervous systems, and advocate for a world that makes space for difference, creativity, and authenticity.

Neurodivergent kids don’t need fixing. The world needs expanding. 🌏🌈

Ahh, the real world.

I'm of the opinion that the 'real world' changes as we change it.

Also, teaching our ND kids how to properly understand and support their brain in a healthy, authentic, sustainable way is *very* much preparing them for the real world.

Yes?

When children see themselves reflected in their toys, it matters. Representation matters! The release of the Autistic Barbie is a small but important step toward greater inclusion, acceptance, and celebration of neurodiversity 🧠🌈

Proprioceptive input (aka pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying) can be really supportive for kids when it comes to regulation and body awareness.

And the best part? You don’t need fancy equipment. Lots of low-cost, everyday items can be turned into playful heavy work — especially when we follow the child’s lead and keep it fun.

Compliance-based approaches often prioritise outward behaviour over inner experience. Over time, this can come at a significant cost — including increased stress, disconnection from the body, and Autistic burnout.

This is why our therapists will always practice from an interoceptive-based, child-led framework. We support children to understand their internal signals, build self-awareness, and develop regulation from the inside out — not through pressure to comply, but through safety, trust, and connection.

In April, so many of you joined us in getting curious about Autistic Burnout—what it really is, why it happens, and how to prevent it.

We explored how compliance-based environments can mistake masking for progress, even as a nervous system begins to collapse. What looks like “success” on the outside can often be deep exhaustion and self-erasure on the inside.

Through curiosity, we can begin to notice these early signals, honor the body’s need for rest and authenticity, and respond with compassion instead of compliance.
