LIFT PROPERLY- When your body is not positioned properly lifting objects it can easily compromise your lower back muscles causing injury and strain and can also lock your spinal joint or rupture your discs when lifting something heavy. When lifting make sure your hips lead you rather then your back, rely on your abdominals and put your chest forward.

CHECK YOUR POSTURE- Our spines form natural curves and it is important that your sitting posture supports these. When your posture goes against these it can lead to damaged nerves and pain. Make sure to stretch and have a break from sitting every chance you get. This is especially important in working home conditions where people tend to sit for longer periods of time than usual. Make sure your office set up is ergonomically friendly. Stand up desks are also a great option- relieving stress from your spine and preventing injury.

TREAT YOURSELF TO A REGULAR MASSAGE- A regular massage has many benefits. They stimulate blood circulation, alleviate sore muscles affecting the spine, manages stress, improves range of movement and raises endorphin levels which permeate the spine.

Chatting today with Adam, he let us know that there are many general things in your day to day life that you should be focusing on to have a healthy and happy spine.

GOOD SLEEP - It is widely known that most adults require 7-8 hours sleep per night for optimal mental and physical wellness. Although not only the quantity of sleep is important, the quality of sleep plays an essential role. Things such as the right mattress, pillow and trying different sleeping positions with your back naturally aligned, can all help with reducing back pain and improving spinal health.

MANAGE STRESS- Stress is known to cause lower back pain episodes and affect your spinal health. Remember to take regular breaks, try breathing and relaxation exercises and do things that help clear your mind.

EXERCISE- Everyday exercise is essential for a healthy spine. Engage in any form of exercise you enjoy! Your core muscles, located in your lower back and abdomen, need to be strong and mobile in order to support your spine and take pressure off your lower back!
