Today is a special milestone in my life and a major step in my path of long-term recovery. Just in the departure lounge waiting to fly out for my first swing in my new FIFO job role✈️
What a year it has been, I am completely gobsmacked at what we have achieved. If you asked me a year ago where you thought I would be now? I am fairly sure I would've said "I don't know" but quietly thought hospital, jail or dead ⚫️
Somewhere somehow I changed the course of my life and literally walked away from the old and into a new life fulfilled with love, support, purpose and vision. A place which is safe, secure and warm within myself. A place that is healthy physically, spiritually and emotionally. I fall asleep at night with no worry and I wake up happy and refreshed. For those who struggle with mentalhealth and addiction it is the life we could only dream of.
Today I am not paralysed by anxiety and depression, plagued with psychosis and vortexed by addiction. Today is a good day.
I don't want to preach too hard about how to get sober because everyone has a different story and with different stories come different battles, but I must say no great battle is won without hard work.
I will share with you though a few things that worked/working for me in no specific order for they are all essential to my life in recovery:
1. Family (support network)
2. Frankie (my dog)
3. Plan & vision
4. Environment
5. Resilience / determination / hard work
And that's it pretty much.. I got help, I got a plan and I got to work and here we are.
Walk2Recovery's mission is at the forefront of our mind and our goal is to have a Pet Friendly Recovery Centre within 5 years.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction&mentalhealth get help now.
