Benny fought valiantly to overcome his own addiction and raise awareness for others.
Tragically, overcoming addiction is a monumental task and a daily struggle, and in the end even Benny lost his fight.
After 18 months of clean living, Benny relapsed and now the world is poorer for not having him.
Despite his own struggles, Benny’s mission in life was to help other people, and this inspired him to begin ‘Walk2recovery’. Benny was completely overwhelmed (as we his family were) with all the messages of support both during and after his walk. Benny wanted to bring into the light the insidiousness of addiction, something he struggled with right until the end. We are so proud of him and everything he was and did. Thank you everyone who supported Benny and please continue to carry the message that Benny fought so hard to carry himself.
Frankie is surround by love and family❤️🐾
RIP Benny🤍

Honoured to be invited to speak about addiction on Insight last night🎥🎬

Met some amazing people including Joe Williams (former rugby NRL and boxer), I had the privilege of sitting next to him and hearing some of his story.

I will keep you updated for when it airs on TV or can be available via SBS on Demand/SBS app.

Today is a special milestone in my life and a major step in my path of long-term recovery. Just in the departure lounge waiting to fly out for my first swing in my new FIFO job role✈️

What a year it has been, I am completely gobsmacked at what we have achieved. If you asked me a year ago where you thought I would be now? I am fairly sure I would've said "I don't know" but quietly thought hospital, jail or dead ⚫️

Somewhere somehow I changed the course of my life and literally walked away from the old and into a new life fulfilled with love, support, purpose and vision. A place which is safe, secure and warm within myself. A place that is healthy physically, spiritually and emotionally. I fall asleep at night with no worry and I wake up happy and refreshed. For those who struggle with mentalhealth and addiction it is the life we could only dream of.

Today I am not paralysed by anxiety and depression, plagued with psychosis and vortexed by addiction. Today is a good day.

I don't want to preach too hard about how to get sober because everyone has a different story and with different stories come different battles, but I must say no great battle is won without hard work.

I will share with you though a few things that worked/working for me in no specific order for they are all essential to my life in recovery:

1. Family (support network)
2. Frankie (my dog)
3. Plan & vision
4. Environment
5. Resilience / determination / hard work

And that's it pretty much.. I got help, I got a plan and I got to work and here we are.

Walk2Recovery's mission is at the forefront of our mind and our goal is to have a Pet Friendly Recovery Centre within 5 years.

If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction&mentalhealth get help now.

Frankie is loving the city life again with so many friends and places to see and sniff!

It's been 2 weeks now in Perth and we were lucky enough to meet our new found family (not sure if you remember, however just before we left Sydney last year we got in touch with my Dad's biological family for the first time).

So our first few days here were spent inside by the fire every night chatting and catching up on life together. Frankie and I felt right at home.

Now we are getting ready for our first time away from each other since I adopted Frankie at 8 Weeks. For those who don't know I got a job in the mines (FIFO) and will be rostered 8 days on 6 off.

Like I said previously that this doesn't change our mission, infact I believe it will allow us to do more and achieve our dream faster 🌏🐾 (Pet Friendly Recovery Centre).

Happy Saturday you beautiful people☀️🌊

Frankie and I just arrived in Perth after driving over 5000Km's, capturing great memories along the way!

It was a very surreal feeling driving on the exact road I walked just a few weeks earlier. What took me a week walking, I was covering every hour by car.. watching days and days of travel whistle past me in an instant was quite a funny feeling.

Ok so I guess you're all wondering what is going on.. Originally before I left Sydney I made a plan to walk across the World 🌎 finishing in Alaska. It was broken up into 6 milestones. Reaching Darwin was the 1st milestone. The ultimate mission of the trip was to raise awareness for addiction&mentalhealth and raise funds for our dream of opening a Pet Friendly Recovery Centre. This dream is alive and well, however the ex*****on of this plan has changed.

After some walking experience under my belt, and further research during my trek, it is safe to say the cost of travelling internationally continuing the walk would be enormous which doesn't fit with our mission of building a Pet Friendly Recovery Centre. Furthermore, the Charity has a lot of work that is needed to achieve this mission and while walking has been beautiful and given so much - to continue now would be a mistake in the long run.

So now you're all up to speed, I have relocated to Perth for work and will spend every spare minute I have at building the charity up to where it needs to be! The next couple weeks will be spent readjusting to life in Perth and learning all the tools needed to succeed in my new job role.

If you missed our radio chats with Lyrelle on ABC Darwin and would like to hear it, jump online and listen (link is in my Instagram bio; bennyctw).

Thank you everyone for all the love and ongoing support - I am very excited to see what the future holds for Walk2Recovery 🐾❤️

Today marks the day of the last 6 months and is a farewell to my new made family in Darwin.

It has been nothing short of a miracle to meet so many lovely people and have so many amazing experiences✨️

We are back on the road again today, but this time with a little faster form of travel🚘

We are making our roundabout trip to Perth and doing some sightseeing along the way.

So many mixed emotions and so many people to thank, but for today I want to make a special mention to Coolalinga Tourist Park for making me part of the family and looking after me these past couple weeks, I’m gonna miss you guys!

We’ve been in Darwin a little over 2 weeks, this chapter is now over and the next one begins.

Our focus now is getting to Perth and building the charity from the ground up with our dream of having a Pet Friendly Recovery Centre🐾

Johno from RDR Maintenance Darwin gave up his Saturday morning to put a new radiator and bushes in our car to get us safely to Perth!

When you receive so much support from these selfless humans it is easy to feel at fault, fortunately we will be able to return some of the kindness next weekend.

If you're in Darwin or surrounding area and you need assistance, contact Johnno, he is the owner of his business, takes pride in his work and is a bloody good bloke!

Feeling very blessed and lucky to meet this Gentleman!

Thanks again Johno Morton and also Barry for teeing it up!

Frankie has been extra spoilt today ~

Litchfield Veterinary Hospital invited us in to give Frankie a full check up from nose to tail, run a blood test to make sure everything internally is happy and healthy and shower him with belly rubs and gifts including a big bag of dog food, a soft toy (which is already shredded), dog bowl, tic collar, worming tablets and more!

Litchfield Veterinary Hospital's love, care, generosity and support has completely blown us away.

Furthermore Coolalinga Tourist Park have put us up for the last 10 days and people from all walks of life have been showing incredible kindness from luncheons to a full massage, haircut and pamper paid for in advance.

Our next move is to make our way to Perth (not on foot 🚷) which I will share with you in more detail soon.

Thank you all so so much we wouldn't be here without you and a special thank you to all who have given their love, care and support here in Darwin! ❤️🐾

It’s been a little over a week since Frankie and I have been in Darwin. We’ve been living the van life thanks to the lovely crew at Coolalinga Tourist Park.

My days have been spent helping out around the park, playing fetch with Frankie and preparing all things needed for our next move which I will share with you in the coming days.

We have settled into van life very well. And I am happy to say it is a blessing to wake up and put clean socks and un**es on🤩

30/06/2022

Good morning!

We have settled into Coolalinga Tourist Park thanks to Pooch, Phillip and Ann-maree.

We are just fattening up after a big 6 months on the road living on tinned food.

Great news is Walk2Recovery's website is nearly complete thanks to a very special person which I will share with you at her discretion🥰

Frankie and I will be very busy for the next couple of weeks while we prepare our next move (Benny prepares, Frankie plays) 🐾

Bad news... is there is no bad news which is also good news!!!

And a while back Big Rigs National Road Transport Newspaper did a wonderful story on Barry & I please visit the link below to check it out.

WOW - what a ride (walk), turns out it's been exactly 180 days from Newtown, Sydney to Darwin City and roughly 4073Kms.

So many mixed emotions blasting through my mind. Today I woke up feeling grateful but slightly lost in the sense that I didn't have to pack up my kit and start walking. This journey has changed me in so many ways I will have to do some reflecting to see how far we have come.

The next days will be spent relaxing and reintegrating back into civilisation for not only me but Frankie too (he thinks everything moving that is not human is a rabbit, pig, or lizard that must be chased lol)

Yesterday after I finished walking I had a big steak burger followed by Calamari and Chips topped off with a big bowl of Ice cream and chocolate.

I then may have got peckish at around 3am this morning and ate some more chocolate and more ice cream and I may have fallen back to sleep with a mouthful of chocolate which I drooled all over my pillow which is now being soaked and washed🤣

I am completely taken back by how much support was shown yesterday, literally 100's of cars beeping and people shouting out the windows and cars stopping to talk and show support really felt like a home coming far away from home 🏡.

We made it to Mindil beach in Darwin around 4pm yesterday afternoon, ending with a ceremonial wheel dunk into the ocean!

I am in complete awe of the entire day and still buzzing to see all this unfold. Tomorrow we are heading down to the ABC studio 🎙 and doing an update of our journey and future plans (stay tuned).

We can't wait to share our experience and also very humbled that the ABC Team have invited Frankie along as well🦮

Thank you again everyone, lots of love from Benny&Frankie 🐾❤️
