✨OPPORTUNITY THROUGH COMMUNICATION✨

Day 5 of Speech Pathology Week is all about how Speech Pathologists open doors to learning, work and community.

This speaks to how we as Speech Pathologists help our clients navigate opening pathways within work, life and community.

I (Lara) reflected on how much I enjoy talking to my older, teenage, sharks about their life plans for after school. As well as their opportunities for part-time work alongside schooling!

Day 2 of Speech Pathology Week is all about how Speech Pathologists support people to express themselves clearly and proudly.

This speaks to how we as Speech Pathologists work to support our clients to be proud of the way that they are understood by others.

Georgia reflected on how one of her sharks was so proud to share how they delivered their speech in front of their entire class! A huge development in skill and this shark was super happy with themselves!!

Happy Sunday! ☀️

These two snaps were taken by an awesome parent at the end of my week and they have led me to reflect on the week that was ...

This week was BIG for me at Sharks, a true emotional roller-coaster and a massive reminder of what a privilege it is to be a part of so many huge moments (the good and the bad) that my families go through.

It was a week of tears as some families navigated some very tough times. It was a week of pure joy and excitement as some families experienced huge wins.

During this week, I felt my relationship grow and become stronger with my incredible families as they welcomed me into these big moments. I have been truly humbled this week by the kindness and compassion that has shown through in some of the toughest moments. I have also been enchanted by the absolute joy and happiness that I have had the honour of being a part of.

This week was a big reminder for me of some of the many reasons why I love my job!

To all our families at Sharks, thank you. Thank you for trusting us with your children. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey. Thank you for being so honest with us about what your family is experiencing. And a big thank you for your ongoing appreciation and support of our team. 💫

As the leaves change and the air begins to cool, it's the perfect time to explore the wonders of language through the lens of the changing season! Here are some fun language ideas to engage with the transition:

🌈 Identifying Changing Colours: Let's marvel at the vibrant hues of autumn leaves! Use descriptive language to name and discuss the various colours we see.

👀 What Looks Different, What Looks the Same: Encourage observation skills and compare how things look now compared to the previous season. What's changed? What's remained the same?

👕 New Clothes, New Vocab: As we prepare for cooler weather, let's explore the names of different types of clothing we might need for autumn. From jumpers to gum boots, there's a whole new set of vocabulary to learn!

⚽ Autumn Sports: Football, soccer, and netball - engage in discussions about the sports and outdoor activities that are popular during the season.

We have recently welcomed Emma to our team and it has been great having her in clinic 🤩

Emma has completed her B. Speech and Hearing Science and is in her final year of her Masters in Speech Pathology.

Emma’s working days will be changing a bit throughout the year as her days are planned around her exciting university clinical placements.
