Cronulla Gropers

Cronulla Gropers The Cronulla Gropers are a group that swim, coffee and chat every sunrise in the name of men's mental health.

We have grown from 2 men to over 278 men that we strive to be a platform for all men to look after themselves and their families.

I am deeply grateful for the inspiring story shared by A Current Affair, shining a light on the remarkable journey of the Cronulla Gropers and the vital work we do for men’s mental health.

From a simple spark of camaraderie between great friends to a flourishing network of support, our community has grown into something truly meaningful. What began with myself and great friend Lee Murphy joining me has blossomed into a family of over 282 men at Cronulla Gropers HQ and beyond, with the generous help of brothers and friends who share in the Gropers mission, Dane Dorahy with Wollongong Gropers and James Mortimer with Mona Vale Gropers.

Our days begin with sunrise swims in our Budgies, a grounding ritual that sets a positive tone and reinforces the importance of movement, connection, and presence. Over coffee, we create a safe space to talk or listen to share worries, celebrate small wins, and explore how we can become better versions of ourselves. This simple practice has saved lives, changed perspectives, and fostered hope where there was doubt.

The ripple effect of our work is profound: improved mental health for each man, stronger and healthier home environments, and a community where men feel seen, heard, and supported. Gratitude for every voice, every story, and every act of kindness fuels the Gropers ongoing journey.

To everyone who stands with us, A Current Affair for telling our story and every person who shows up with courage - thank you. My belief in the power of connection and compassion helps us build a brighter future, one sunrise, one conversation, and one supportive hello at a time. I remain committed to service, growth, and the unwavering conviction that together, we can create a better life for ourselves and those we love. Love The Gropers jdozjdoz .hardy

Hey Guys.. thanks to Bob Bob ( #53) for creating these snippets prior to ACA.
Keep your eye out for A Current Affair who recently did a story on us THE CRONULLA GROPERS… they were amazing…. It was a beautiful day… Simon covered our journey of where we started to where we are now and everything in between. We got some of our great members to complete interviews to shed some light on how The Gropers and our NFP Charity SWIM COFFEE CHAT have collaborated to do wonderful things for not only the men interviewed but our members mental health and how it effects their family and the broader community.

World Su***de Prevention Day: A Commitment to Support, Every Day

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, we reaffirm the importance of open, honest conversations about mental health and su***de prevention.

This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Su***de,” invites us to challenge stigma, listen without judgment, and foster safe spaces where individuals feel supported and heard—consistently, every day as we do at our Groper locations 365 days per year

Su***de prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Whether it’s checking in with a colleague, reaching out to a friend, or simply being present, small actions can have a meaningful impact. Each of us plays a part in building a culture of care and connection.

Let’s use today—and every day—as an opportunity to start conversations and ensure people know the resources available to them. You never know who might need them.

As part of our ongoing commitment, we (The Gropers, Swim Coffee Chat NFP and Joyce Campbell) have trained nearly 20 men in mental health first aid, enabling them to recognize signs, listen attentively, and provide support in any way they can. If you know someone who is struggling, please reach out.

It’s mind blowing and humbling how many men we have helped or saved. 💙
From Lee Murphy and I to now 278 men and still growing is a blessing…🙏
The Cronulla Gropers, Wollongong Gropers and soon to be Mono Vale Gropers plus Port Macquarie Gropers and being a safe space to show our vulnerability and be brave to talk after a cold dip in our budgies Budgy Smuggler while the sunrise is coming up is a massive thing for men to do who generally bottle things up and don’t talk.
This starts our day positive and we return home in a great mindset which also helps the families and other relationships.
I want to thank Simon Kennedy – Member for Cook and previously Mark Speakman for the kind words in Parliament for the work we are doing in the community, much appreciated. (See attached)
We aren’t here to want acknowledgement or any awards, it’s something both Lee and I are passionate about and that is helping people.
Have a great day all - hump day
Love JD💙

MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR MENTAL HEALTH IN OUR COMMUNITY

Our Men’s Mental Health Charity - Swim Coffee Chat, is proud to be working with its affiliated groups the Cronulla and Wollongong Gropers to conduct our annual major fundraising Golf Day on Aug 22nd at Woolooware Golf Club. This year it takes on much more significance because the proceeds go to fitting out a much needed room in the Sutherland Hospital Mental Health Unit to make a big difference to the care given to in-patients. This is the first step in a much broader relationship we are working on with the Hospital as we explore ways to support the broader reach they have in the community through their amazing care workers.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SUPPORT IN 3 WAYS

1. Hole sponsorships are still available @$1000 each. You can activate the tee box and surrounding area with signage or have staff there to share samples or flyers. At a minimum we will produce some standard signage for you with your logo.

2. We still have some spots available for foursomes to play on the day. $650 gets you 4 players, breakfast, lunch, some beverages through the day and a great lunch event with guest speakers, a comedian and plenty of auction items and raffle items.

3. We are pre-selling two raffles @$100 per ticket. Each raffle with have a host of smaller prizes with the big prizes being $5000 in cash and a brand new Motor Scooter. Only 100 tickets will be sold in each of the two raffles so good odds!

All donations direct to our charity Swim Coffee Chat) are tax deductible and a great way to give to assist an increasingly prevalent cause.

Here is the link that gives you all options.

A massive shout out to Simon Kennedy – Member for Cook . An amazing man doing amazing things. Simon is a valued member of the Cronulla Gropers with squad number 250 out of currently 277. We also have the Wollongong Gropers and we are about to pop up at 2 more locations in the coming months. Our goal is to stop these men taking their lives by starting their day positive with a SWIM COFFEE CHAT at sunrise in our Budgy Smugglers. We have put men through their mental health first aid to ensure we have men amongst us to recognise signs. We are a place where men can feel safe and connected where they feel like they belong through our number system we give out even when we are vulnerable. I have 3 major things in my life going on at this point in time and The CRONULLA Gropers and our members have definitely helped me where I’ve needed it - very grateful) Lee Murphy Joyce Campbell

So proud of what Lee Murphy and I have achieved over these last 4-5 years by creating an amazing mens mental health group called THE Cronulla Gropers…To go from the two of us to now 277 members is outstanding… To also found a NFP Charity called SWIM COFFEE CHAT…. Where we do many amazing events raising money to help not only our community but the wider community… We are in the process of about to fit out a quiet room at Sutherland Hospital through our up coming 3rd annual Charity Golf Day…We do other things such as Bali retreats…24 hour challenges…Christmas parties for all families. Winter solstice bbq for all…Black Tie dinner for not only Gropers and partners but the wider community….We donate 25% back to our Groped for things such as what this video is about… helping, praising, celebrating and being there for each other… Just one of many great things we are doing and will continue to build on and create!!! Wollongong Gropers are also growing for anyone down south…Please see this video… not to embarrass anyone but to celebrate hard times and storms will slowly pass, memories will last…. Love you KK 💙🙏
