Here’s my haiku about postpartum periods:

Zonked, zapped, zilch
Nappies for her, pads for me
Harder than before.

In my next post I’ll be sharing the hormonal mechanisms that occur to regain your period post birth, and why this can happen as early as 6 weeks pp or up to 1+ years pp.

For far too long the infertility blame has disproportionately burdened the female. It’s time to shift the narrative here, as the male factor contributes to approximately 50% of infertility cases in heterose*ual couples.

To break this down further;
📍30% solely male factor
📍20-30% combined male/female factor
📍30% female factor
📍10% unexplained.

The total s***m production timeline takes on average 74 days. S***m mature in the part of the testicle called the epididymis which is a tightly coiled tube at the top of the testicles, and when stretched out completely can measure on average 6 metres long (!!!).

What you eat, drink, and environmental exposure yourself to during that 2.5 months will influence your s***m quality and quantity.

So if you’re thinking about optimising your health for preconception, both parties need to be equally involved.

*In the case of medical referencing, gendered terms male/female are used.

Have you used a menstrual cup before?

I’ve listed my pros and cons in this post to help you decide whether or not it may be an option for you?

Have you heard of the menstrual disc? Slowing gaining just as much attention and popularity as the menstrual cup. Either way, there are SO many more sustained period care options on the market.

Let’s get familiar with the word colposcopy, as chances are you or someone you know has had one.

I had a colposcopy with cervical biopsies and wanted to share my experience in the hope of spreading awareness of this common procedure and also help to lessen the worry or shame potentially associated with this.

🔍Cervical screening: the primary examination used to check for HPV strains.

🔍Colposcopy: If there has been recurrent positive HPV infection, a colposcopy is the next step to inspect any abnormalities in the tissues.

🔍Colposcopy with Biopsy: if abnormal tissues are detected upon colposcopy examination, a biopsy may be taken.

*a reminder that this post is my personal experience and serves as a general guide. All enquiries should be directed to your Gynaecologist or doctor.

Today I had a skin check. It had been 3 since years since my last (woops!) 🌞

Melanoma is known as Australia’s National Cancer, with 1 person diagnosed every 30 minutes.

It’s important that we are diligent with our skin checks and know the signs and symptoms of melanoma detection which i’ve listed them in this post.

A is for Asymmetry
B is for Boarder
C is for Colour
D is for Diameter
E is for Evolving

As the UV index starts to climb as summer approaches it’s a timely reminder that as little as 5 sunburns can double your risk of Melanoma.

How about let the women decide what the women want?

Regardless of whether you follow American politics or not, this quote is a great big slap in the face of why language matters and why we must continue to fight for feminism.

This morning we took part in the 5km event to raise funds for - an Australian organisation supporting individuals through early pregnancy loss.

Thank you to the organisers of this event. I am always blown away by the vulnerability and strength from people within this community that none of us chose to be in, yet through our collective hurt and sorrow we have formed a beautiful mutual respect, support and friendship.

Little shoutout to the rainbow that showed up in the pics too, I see you 🌈

This is your Sunday night reminder to prep your overnight oats and take your Magnesium.

The recommended daily intake (RDI) for an adult female is 320mg/day.

Over half the bodies stored magnesium is in bones and another third is found in muscles and soft tissues.

I love a mag supplement and there are many out there, but I’m a big believer in eating your minerals first. Green veges, legumes, peas, dark chocolate, and nuts are great sources to meet that RDI.
