College of Professional Psychology

College of Professional Psychology Our flexible, practical programs are open to eligible psychology graduates wanting to apply for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia

The College of Professional Psychology was established in 1993. For over 20 years, we have been providing comprehensive programs that bridge the gap between tertiary studies and a career as a registered psychologist. Our aim is to make a positive contribution to the mental wellbeing of the wider community by expanding the capabilities and practical experience of psychologists. We achieve this by providing the most comprehensive psychology registration internship programs in Australia. We deliver a curriculum that is innovative and current whilst meeting the Psychology Board of Australia's approval.

Sharon is one of our wonderful Board-approved Supervisors, providing supervision to our provisional psychologists. She integrates a reflective and developmental approach to supervision.

Sharon has practiced as a generally registered psychologist in a diverse range of settings, including private practice, EAP, a physical rehabilitation hospital and the not-for-profit sector. Sharon’s qualification in Counselling Psychology has provided her with a rich appreciation of the importance of the therapeutic relationship and the power of process in therapeutic work.

Sharon also has a special interest in the relationship between psychology and spirituality and how faith narratives can be used creatively in therapy. She draws on a wide range of modalities to augment the Person-Centered work that she does, including CBT, ACT, IPT and Schema Therapy.

Prior to her work in psychology, Sharon worked in education for many years. As a Board-approved supervisor and PD facilitator for COPP, Sharon applies her passion for counselling, learning, and teaching.

If you want to work in a psychology role separate to your higher degree placements, you will need to apply for Board-approval. That includes roles where the title ‘provisional psychologist’ will be used; or any other title that could reasonably be taken to mean the person is a provisional psychologist (including “behaviour support practitioner”, “occupational rehab consultant”, and similar). It also includes any role where an individual engages in psychological practice that involves direct client contact, whether it is voluntary or paid.

Provisional psychologists working in addition to their placements must meet certain requirements, such as receiving regular supervision by a Board-approved supervisor.

The College of Professional Psychology can provide you with individual and group supervision needed to meet the required ratio based on your work hours. We also provide support and guidance with direct observations as well as all required AHPRA paperwork.
