Looking Inwards

Looking Inwards Meditation and Mindfulness for self-inquiry, with Senior Meditation Teacher Tracy Hambly. Based in the Yarra Ranges and outer east Melbourne.

Created by Tracy Hambly, Looking Inwards offers meditation and nature-based classes, workshops, retreats and private sessions. These offerings are rooted in self-exploration and free expression, drawing on meditative practice that allows the truthful understanding that teaches inner peace.

“We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was not normal, other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate, and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment, one that fits all of humanity and nature.”
- Sonya Renee Taylor

There's been exhaustion shared amongst the meditators at Looking Inwards studio of late. In Melbourne, coming out of the stricter restrictions we've experienced these 2 years it has seemed a little automatic to return back to the busyness of life, hasn't it? Busyness as our normal. And living in busyness with no support can set us up to fail, I think.
Normal should be feeling peaceful, whenever possible.
Normal should be respecting our bodies and minds, by taking it slow amidst the busy, whenever possible.
By creating time for peaceful breaks, stillness finds you.

Looking Inwards' 60 Days of Still-mind course is open and taking interest! And set to run this July 🙌

The meditation course is on the essentials of starting your very own daily meditation practice! It's been popular with meditators so far who want to:
〰️Start/keep up daily meditation practice at home
〰️Experience deeper immersion into meditation through a course
〰️Meditate on their own, independent of guidance, apps, YouTube, and other drop-in services

Still-mind practices and techniques given over 8 weeks of sessions, just to serve your 60 days of daily meditation practice. You'll get community support too, alongside an experienced meditation teacher (me!)

You’ll emerge from the Still-mind course with your very own, tried-and-tested independent meditation practice to last for the long haul.

Held in person at The Innate Connection, Croydon. Just 5 places, join us via www.lookinginwards.org/stillmindcourse/ ☺️

"Meditation's hard work!"

It really can be.

A meditator at Looking Inwards recently shared about how their ongoing meditative practice can be really hard sometimes! From finding the motivation to meditate, keeping it a priority above everything else in life, maintaining your meditation even when things gets rocky. I get it.

Of all the hours in my week, it can be insightful how much time I spend on each thing in my life. This last week it was work (gardening and meditation teaching), cooking (from Nadia Lim's cookbook), sleeping, reading (Greenlights anyone?), swimming, meditating, TV (the whole Broad City series perhaps...). The point is, there's a whole lotta time in one's life to dedicate to whatever we choose! To allocating time for things we love, and for our wellbeing.

BUT... it takes time, practice, and lots of support to truly and meaningfully prioritise and commit to meditation. A meditative way of living.

And... it DOESN'T have to be hard.

The unique skills of discipline to keep meditating, for your whole life, are what week 2 of my meditation course '60 Days of Still-mind' is all about! "Supportive Discipline" is where we explore all the specifics behind a long lasting meditation and mindfulness routine. I just realised that last month was Looking Inward's 4th birthday! 🥳🥳🥳

11th of April marked the anniversary of my first opening night where I invited my friends, family, and community to come help celebrate the start of Looking Inwards Meditation.

Here's me, at my happiest, in my meditation studio at The Innate Connection. May I enjoy practicing meditation with you all for many more years!

Instilling the passion and skills to meditate for life is my drive here at Looking Inwards! I loved spreading how meditation can be a way to richer quality of living in ourselves. Like one of my first meditators Chloe, who shared that having "techniques to utilise in day to day life" helps us feel "calm" as we walk through our days!

Access to a real-life, in-person meditation and mindfulness teacher is one of the keys to a meditation practice that has longevity. It's what I've found in all my mentors and teachers who stoke the flame of my self-awareness, and I'm just blown away to be told by my students, like Chloe, that our meditations have such an impact 🤲

My 60 Days of Still-mind meditation course promises just that: skills and techniques for a lifelong meditative and mindfulness practice! If you're curious, please see:

And register your interest to stay in the loop for the next course.

Cheers to you my practicing community! Thank you friends, students, fellow yogis and meditators for this virtual sangha or community we call social media, I see you and value you so much. What you do and share does matter. Please keep practicing, keep inspiring me and each other.

Just pausing today to really see you, the humans behind the screen. We are all in this walk of contemplation together, living the values, spreading that light of self-awareness that is so so healing. In the words of Viola Davis in The Help:

'You are kind.
You are smart.
You are important.'

I'm grateful for you.

Tracy

"An ocean", "a campfire", "petting my animals." These were all student's images shared in our smiling meditation this week. One meditator dropped so deep they said "I lost my arms and legs". They became more unaware of their body in their depth of stillness! This smiling meditation awakens our joyful selves, a heartwarming practice for our first session this Autumn term 🥰

To do the smiling meditation 〰️
Close your eyes, breathe deeply into your body with your hand or fingertips over your belly to feel the wondrous movement of your breath. Feel the softness in your muscles deepen as you breathe. After some time, bring to mind an image in your mind's eye of you doing something you completely love.
Sit with this for some time, allowing the colours, textures and temperature of the scene and place to be rich and real in your mind. Now breathe into your body once more and find, savour, the feeling this loved activity brings you.
Notice how easy it feels to sit with this. To finish, let go of this image and bring a light smile to the corners of your lips. Just gently.

Being at peace is your true and better nature. Take time to remind yourself every day. ☀️

Does intuition play a role in living peacefully? This is the big question we explore in week 1 of my Learn to Meditate course!

A meditation student just recently shared how their impulses were sometimes not to be trusted, and maybe not so healthy... leading to more stress! Self-inquiry through meditation builds healthier intuition. I believe without understanding ourselves and moving in natural, in-our-grain ways we cannot be happy 🧘‍♂

This first chapter of the Learn to Meditate is called "Stillness Nature". We strengthen our intuition in this first week by:
〰 Comfortably sitting with feelings and thoughts in meditation
〰 Processing personal difficulties and conflicts in meditative self-inquiry worksheets and group talks

Get a taste of week 1: Stillness Nature and the 8 week full meditation course via the link in my bio 😄

Thank you to each of the lovely group of meditators who joined me live via Zoom for the Sleep and Live Restfully webinar. We had tea, chatted all things meditation, sleep and stress. Many found it incredibly validating, and also said they had a great night's sleep afterwards, which is such a special affirmation to hear!

Enjoy some of the recorded Sleep Meditation talk here. We discuss how to:
1. Slow the nervous system through meditation.
2. Use mindfulness in daily life, and choose rest as a way of living.
3. Create peaceful and calming routines that make stress-release an innate habit.

Wishing you peace and mental strength on your path, and don’t forget to share this video if it helped you in any way or you know someone who would benefit from it.

P.S. part 2: the guided sleep meditation to come soon 😉

I'm just so inspired to meditate with the upcoming Contemplative Meditation Group this April 🙌 each student, some returning and some new, has shared such a vibrancy and passion for strengthening their inner peace and stillness. I design every term around each individual, and with such a courageous group our meditation and mindfulness practices are sure tap into the profound (such as the the teachings of Patanjali, author of the Yoga Sutras).

We are fully booked for Contemplative Meditation in our upcoming Autumn Term, but our Stillness Meditation Group still has 3 spots left for you to be part of our practicing community this April!

About the class:
