Experience rural medicine early in your career - working alongside Rural Generalists and getting a taste of the rural lifestyle.

To be part of the R2R Intern Program, final year medicine students can apply via South Australian Medical Education and Training when Intern applications open next month on 5 May, 2026.

All the best to the Term 2 Interns for a great Rural Generalist experience!

🎉 *20 Years of Gabby at Crystal Brook & Laura Medical Practice!*🎉

Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone at Crystal Brook & Laura Medical Practice — Gabby’s 20 years with our team! 💐

Over the past two decades, Gabby has been a constant at the practice, providing wonderful care to our patients while also doing a mountain of work behind the scenes. From keeping us organised and on track for accreditation, to making sure all the compliance boxes are ticked (even the ones the rest of us didn’t know existed!), Gabby plays a huge role in keeping the place running smoothly.

She’s a steady leader for the team, a friendly and familiar face for our patients, and someone we rely on more than she probably realises.

Quite simply, the practice wouldn’t be the same without her!

We are so grateful for her commitment, her knowledge, and the care she shows to our community every day.

🩺 Port Pirie has welcomed three Adelaide University Rural Health students who will spend the next 10 months training in Crystal Brook and Laura, gaining hands-on experience and immersing themselves in the community.

Asking for scripts/referrals/paperwork for family members will not be completed at your appointment. They require their own booking.

Some GPs prefer a longer consult for paperwork (especially driving medicals and Centrelink forms).
Our ‘on the day’ appointments that open up each morning will NOT be used for this purpose.
Please call to book when you receive your paperwork.

This 29-year-old doctor knows firsthand that rural GPs are the heartbeat of their communities.

‘As a rural doctor, you are a jack of all trades – we must face the concerns of every person who walks through the door,’ said Dr Nikki Pennifold, who’s in Crystal Brook, about 200 kms north of Adelaide, where she’s training as a GP through the Single Employer Model at the Yorke and Northern Local Health Network.

The Single Employer Model is helping doctors like Nikki live and work where they’re needed most across regional South Australia. Now the Rural Support Service Support Service, in partnership with regional local health networks, is expanding the model with applications now open for 2026.
