Dr Hamilton is honoured to be recognised by the global medical student community.

As a medical student at the University of Adelaide, Dr Richard Hamilton served as National President of the Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA). His leadership journey took him to international conferences and ultimately to the role of World President of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA).

This month, Dr Hamilton was awarded Honorary Life Membership of the IFMSA by their General Assembly in Greece – a permanent recognition of his service to the global medical student movement.

Although unable to attend in person, he joined online to witness the occasion and reflect on how formative his time with IFMSA has been for his career and values as a doctor.

Dr Hamilton extends his sincere thanks to the IFMSA for this acknowledgement, and to the many inspiring colleagues and students he has worked alongside over the years.

Nestled at 470 Goodwood Road in Cumberland Park, our striking two-storey Art Deco gem was crafted in the late 1930s by esteemed Adelaide architect Jack Cheesman. Originally serving as a surgeon’s residence and consulting rooms for Dr Escourt Hughes, the building has gracefully transformed over the decades.

In the late 1990s, architect A.R. “Tui” Reynolds of Brown Falconer Architects led its renovation, honouring its architectural elegance while adapting it for modern medical use. Since then, Hamilton House has evolved into a state-of-the-art private plastic surgery practice, combining heritage charm with contemporary care.

Our new logo has been designed to celebrate Hamilton House as a destination for total patient care, a space where history, precision, and compassion come together.

Today, under the dedicated guidance of Dr Richard Hamilton who brings over 30 years of experience, the practice embraces a patient-centred philosophy. Communication, education, and compassion are at its core, empowering patients to make informed decisions and achieve confident, realistic results.

BEFORE SURGERY
Your first consultation with your Specialist Plastic Surgeon will take place face-to-face in a supportive environment.

Your specialist plastic surgeon will provide a thorough assessment of your needs, including whether the procedure is appropriate for you, your recovery capacity, risks involved, and a clear explanation of what you must do to make a full recovery. Your surgeon will always strive to provide advice that is right for you and won’t try to persuade you into having a procedure or rush you into making a decision.

All ASAPS member specialist plastic surgeons are bound by the RACS code of ethics, so you can be reassured you will never be ‘sold’ an operation. Your surgeon will give you professional guidance and encourage you to ask questions, so you know all the facts to make an informed decision. They will also readily explain all their qualifications and experience to you.

DURING SURGERY
Choosing an ASAPS specialist plastic surgeon means your cosmetic plastic surgery will take place in a reputable hospital or clinic that conforms to high standards of safety, cleanliness, infection control, staffing and equipment.

You can also expect your surgeon to engage specialist anaesthetists who they know and trust as well as consult with well-qualified practitioners from other disciplines. As a specialist plastic surgeon, your surgeon’s training is recognised by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) or the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). This recognition provides peace of mind around your surgeon’s individual experience and ability to effectively manage any possible complications.

Your specialist plastic surgeon has been trained in world-class reconstructive techniques. Specialist plastic surgeons also have high levels of training and engage in yearly Continuous Professional Development (CPD). This means that your specialist plastic surgeon will have a thorough understanding of proportions and refinements required to achieve an outcome, which suits your personal needs.

AFTER SURGERY
By choosing an ASAPS member as your specialist plastic surgeon, you get the peace of mind of knowing you will receive the best of care after your cosmetic plastic surgery.

Your specialist plastic surgeon will supervise your care throughout your entire aftercare process through regular post-surgery consultations as you recover.

Delicate skin around your eyes is one of the most common areas for skin cancer to develop.

Because the eyelids are constantly exposed to sunlight, they’re vulnerable to both basal cell carcinoma (the most common type) and other skin cancers. Early signs can be subtle—persistent redness, a sore that won’t heal, or a small bump that changes over time.

Dr Hamilton has extensive experience in the delicate art of eyelid reconstruction following skin cancer removal, prioritising both function and aesthetics to ensure optimal outcomes for his patients.

Protect your eyes:

Always wear sunglasses with UV protection
Apply SPF to your eyelids and surrounding skin
See your doctor if you notice any changes
Your eyes deserve expert care. If you’ve been diagnosed with an eyelid skin cancer or are concerned about a lesion, Dr Hamilton can guide you through your options with precision and compassion.

Considering a more defined upper lip?

A lip lift is a surgical procedure designed to subtly shorten the space between the nose and the upper lip. This can enhance the shape and balance of the lips and, in some cases, restore features that change with age.

Dr Richard Hamilton offers lip lift procedures as part of his personalised approach to facial aesthetics, with a focus on natural-looking results and patient care.

Make sure you know who is performing your surgery.

Choosing a Specialist Plastic Surgeon — not just a “cosmetic” surgeon — means your procedure is performed by someone with extensive surgical training, specialist qualifications, and registration with AHPRA.

Breast surgery isn’t just about appearance. It requires careful planning, precise technique, and a deep understanding of anatomy to help achieve safe and proportionate results.

Dr Richard Hamilton is a Specialist Plastic Surgeon and a member of ASAPS (Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), committed to patient safety and evidence-based care.

As we get older, the skin around the eyes can start to sag or feel heavy, which may affect your appearance or, in some cases, your vision. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a procedure that can help address changes to the upper or lower eyelids.

Dr Richard Hamilton offers individualised consultations at Hamilton House to discuss your concerns and whether this procedure may be suitable for your needs.
