“What’s the difference between a titled and non-titled physiotherapist?”
I get this question a lot — and I think, as a profession, we physios aren’t always the best at promoting the depth of our expertise. So here’s a little insight into what it means to be an APA Titled Continence and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist.
There are a few pathways to gaining this title, but for me, it meant returning to uni to complete a Masters degree in the field.
🎓 That’s not just a few short courses — although yes, I’ve done those too.
It meant:
✨Countless hours of study
✨Assignments, exams, and practical placements
✨Being assessed and critiqued by leading experts
✨Sharpening my clinical reasoning and hands-on skills every step of the way
It was intense, but so worth it.
And it doesn’t stop there — titled physios also commit to ongoing professional development, to stay up to date with the latest evidence-based care for our patients.
🧠 While my title is in continence and pelvic health, I work regionally — so I treat a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal, orthopaedics, sports, and rehab.
I hope this gives a bit of clarity.
And a big shoutout to all the physios out there wearing their APA titles with pride 💙
