KEEP CALM — IT’S XMAS! 🎄✨
Feeling overwhelmed? Rushing? Brain going a million miles an hour?

Here’s your instant nervous-system reset:

Stop… and hum the alphabet.
Yes — literally hum A, B, C, D… all the way through.

Why it works:
When you hum, you activate your vagus nerve — the body’s built-in calming switch.
Humming also engages the breath and vibration centres in the throat, which makes it almost impossible to think stressful thoughts at the same time.
It quickly shifts you out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-digest — perfect for melting those pre-Christmas jitters.

So next time the shops are crazy, the to-do list is long, or the stress creeps in…
✨ Pause. Breathe. Hum.
Your whole body will thank you.

And if you need a deeper reset before the silly season hits full speed, we’ve got limited appointments left this week.

☀️ TCM TIPS FOR SUMMER HEAT — STAY COOL, CALM & BALANCED
Summer is the season of the Heart in Chinese Medicine — the organ system that governs joy, circulation, mental clarity, and emotional harmony.
But too much heat (weather + lifestyle + stress) can tip the balance, leading to:
❤️ irritability
🔥 heat rashes + breakouts
😴 poor sleep
💦 excessive sweating
🥵 feeling “hot and bothered”
🧠 scattered thoughts or anxiety
Here’s how to support your Heart, calm the Shen (mind), and thrive through the Summer months:

🌿 1. Choose Cooling, Hydrating Foods
In TCM, foods have energetic temperatures — not just physical ones. Reach for:
• Watermelon (Xi Gua)
• Cucumber
• Mint
• Coconut water
• Rockmelon
• Lettuce
• Zucchini
• Celery
• Chrysanthemum tea (Ju Hua)
• Green tea
These help clear summer heat, support fluids, and keep your temperature regulated.

💧 2. Stay Hydrated — But Don’t Shock Your System
Ice-cold drinks can “put out” your digestive fire (Spleen Yang).
Instead, choose:
• cool or room-temp water
• mint or lemon water
• herbal teas
• electrolytes on very hot days
Your digestion will thank you.

🧘‍♀️ 3. Calm Your Heart Fire
Too much Heart Fire can show up as insomnia, impatience, palpitations, or anxiety.
Try:
• gentle evening walks
• legs-up-the-wall pose
• humming (vagus nerve activation)
• journaling to settle the mind before bed
• avoid scrolling late at night

🌬 4. Avoid Peak Heat Hours (11am–3pm)
TCM views Summer as a time of outward energy — but the body still needs protection from excess heat or “Summerheat Syndrome.”
Plan big tasks early morning or late afternoon.

🌺 5. Nourish Yin When the Heat Dries You Out
If you’re feeling dry, depleted, or burnt out, add:
• pears
• tofu
• mung beans
• chrysanthemum + goji berry tea
• tremella mushroom
• aloe vera juice
• avocado
These replenish fluids and soothe internal dryness.

💛 Grief Can Feel Heavier at Christmas — And We’re Here to Help
The holidays can amplify everything — the joy, the busyness, the pressure…
and the grief.
Whether you’re missing someone, navigating family changes, or feeling the weight of an emotional year, know this:

You’re not alone, and your feelings are valid.

In Chinese medicine, grief isn’t “just an emotion.”
It has a physiology — a shape, a movement, and a place it settles in the body.

🌬 How Chinese Medicine Understands Grief
In TCM, grief is primarily connected to the Lungs - the organ system that governs breath, boundaries, letting go, immunity, and the capacity to take in life.
When grief is heavy or prolonged, it can show up as:

- tight chest or shallow breathing
-sighing
- fatigue or low motivation
- frequent colds or lowered immunity
-a sense of emptiness or heaviness
- difficulty letting go
- crying easily or not being able to cry at all
- sleep disruption
- digestive changes
- skin issues (the Lungs rule the skin)

But grief also affects the Heart (Shen) — our emotional centre, and can disturb the mind, sleep, and sense of stability.
Sometimes grief becomes “stagnant,” meaning the body can’t move it or release it.
This is when people feel stuck, numb, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves.

🌿 LARGE INTESTINE 11 (LI11 – QŪCHÍ)
“Pool at the Crook”

Location: At the outer end of the elbow crease.

🔥 WHAT THIS POINT DOES
LI11 is one of the strongest heat-clearing and cooling points in all of Chinese Medicine.
It’s part of the Yangming channel — a channel full of Qi and Blood — giving it powerful effects on the entire body.

Key functions:
Clears internal and external Heat
Regulates Blood temperature
Cools inflammation
Releases Summer Heat
Supports the immune system
Benefits the skin

Moves Qi + Blood when things feel “stuck”
Calms irritability and agitation due to heat
In TCM, “Heat” isn’t just temperature — it includes inflammation, redness, agitation, feverish feelings, rashes, and over-stimulation of the mind.

🌞 WHY PRACTITIONERS USE LI11 IN SUMMER
Summer is the season of Heart Fire and Summerheat — a unique pathogenic factor in TCM that creates:
overheating
dehydration
irritability
rashes
digestive upset
headaches
poor sleep
heatstroke-like symptoms
LI11 is the go-to point to cool and regulate the whole system in hot weather.
It helps the body release excessive Yang, clear heat, and restore balance.

🌡 CONDITIONS LI11 CAN HELP IN SUMMER
1. Heat & Inflammation in the Body
overheating
flushed face
irritability
restlessness
feverish sensations
hot hands and feet
LI11 helps regulate temperature and disperse excess heat.

2. Skin Conditions Made Worse by Heat
Such as:
acne
heat rash
eczema flares
hives
red, itchy skin
LI11 is famous for its effect on skin because it clears Heat from the Blood.

3. Digestive Heat & Summer-Induced Upset
Summerheat often affects the Spleen + Stomach, causing:
loose stools
bloating
nausea
poor appetite
diarrhoea after heat exposure
LI11 helps clear this pathogenic heat.

4. Emotional Heat (Heart Fire)
Summer can make emotions more heightened.
LI11 is used for:
irritability
agitation
stress
feeling mentally “hot and bothered”
insomnia from heat

5. Immune Support
LI11 is also an immune-regulating point, useful when heat weakens the system or when a person feels run down from overexposure.
🧘‍♀️ SUMMARY
Large Intestine 11 is the body’s cooling valve.
In Summer, when heat affects the skin, digestion, mood, or overall energy, LI11 helps release that excess, regulate temperature, and restore harmony.
It’s one of the most commonly used points in hot climates — and a staple in summer acupuncture treatments.

💛 Grief Can Feel Heavier at Christmas — And You’re Not Alone
This time of year can bring up big emotions.
Joy and connection… but also grief, longing, sadness, and the ache of who or what is missing.
If you’re feeling it — we see you.
And Chinese Medicine has beautiful ways to support you through it.

💆‍♀️ How Acupuncture Helps With Grief
Acupuncture isn’t just physical therapy — it regulates the nervous system, moves emotional Qi, and gives the body a safe pathway to process experiences that feel too big.

✨ 1. Opens the chest + deepens the breath
By supporting Lung Qi, acupuncture helps release the tight, heavy, breathless feeling many people carry when grieving.

✨ 2. Calms the Heart + settles the mind
Heart-calming points reduce anxiety, soften emotional intensity, and create a sense of internal safety so the body can rest and repair.

✨ 3. Moves stagnant emotions
Grief often gets “stuck.”
Acupuncture gently moves Qi where it has frozen, helping emotions shift instead of being held inside the body.

✨ 4. Regulates the nervous system
It switches you out of survival mode and into restoration.
This helps with sleep, digestion, clarity, and emotional resilience.

✨ 5. Grounds + supports energy
Many people feel drained or unanchored in grief.
Treatment strengthens Spleen + Kidney Qi to bring back a sense of stability and strength.

✨ 6. Supports immunity weakened by emotional stress
TCM recognises that grief lowers Wei Qi (defensive energy).
Acupuncture helps rebuild it so the body doesn’t crash.

🌿 Chinese Herbal Medicine for Grief
Herbs can be a powerful companion during loss, sadness, and emotional overwhelm.

Depending on your pattern, formulas may help:
❤️ Calm the Shen
For anxiety, restlessness, emotional overwhelm, insomnia.

🌬 Support the Lungs
To ease chest tightness, sighing, short breath, crying easily, or not being able to cry at all.

⚡ Move Qi + release emotional blockage
For that heavy, stuck, numb, or “swallowed down” feeling.

🌙 Nourish Yin when grief feels hot or agitated
To soothe night sweats, irritability, overthinking, and heart-flutter sensations.

💛 Strengthen Spleen Qi
When grief affects digestion, appetite, or the ability to cope day-to-day.

Herbal medicine works gently but deeply — helping regulate emotions, settle the body, and restore emotional and physical balance.

❤️🔥 TOO MUCH HEART HEAT AT CHRISTMAS? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

We often think of this time of year as joyful — sparkling lights, parties, excitement, family, late nights, celebration…

But in Chinese Medicine, even too much joy can become overstimulation.
And when joy becomes excess, it can lead to Heart Heat — a pattern that can show up strongly over Christmas.
Yes… even joy needs balance.

🔥 What Is Heart Heat?
In TCM, the Heart governs:
• the Shen (mind + spirit)
• sleep
• circulation
• emotional regulation
• clarity and calmness
Joy is the emotion of the Heart.

A healthy amount warms and expands us…
But too much joy, overstimulation, excitement, stress, alcohol, heat, sugar, late nights and emotional intensity can all flare Heart Fire.

This is common at Christmas because everything is amplified — socially, emotionally, energetically, and physically.

🔥 How Heart Heat Shows Up in the Body
You may notice:
• feeling “wired” or overexcited
• restlessness
• insomnia (mind won’t switch off)
• anxiety or agitation
• heart palpitations
• red face or feeling hot in the chest
• mouth ulcers or tongue sores
• vivid or disturbing dreams
• irritability
• feeling scattered or overwhelmed
• difficulty winding down after social events
This is your Heart system saying:
“I’m overstimulated — I need cooling, grounding and stillness.”

💆‍♀️ How Acupuncture Helps Cool Heart Heat
Acupuncture works beautifully to settle Heart Fire and restore emotional balance.
✨ 1. Calms the Shen
Heart-calming points gently “anchor” the mind, helping with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and racing thoughts.
✨ 2. Regulates the nervous system
Switches you out of high alert and back into rest mode.
✨ 3. Clears Heat
Specific points help release excess heat from the Heart channel, cooling the chest, face, and mind.
✨ 4. Improves sleep
By settling the Heart, people fall asleep more easily and sleep more deeply.
✨ 5. Rebalances emotions
Reducing Heart Heat helps you feel grounded, centred, and able to enjoy the season without burning out.

🌿 Chinese Herbal Medicine for Heart Heat
Herbal formulas may help to:
• clear Heat from the Heart and Small Intestine
• calm the Shen
• reduce restlessness and irritability
• soothe mouth ulcers + tongue sores
• support better sleep
• nourish Yin if Heat is draining fluids
• cool the body and mind gently
These are always prescribed based on your individual pattern.

🤍 Christmas Doesn’t Have to Overwhelm the Heart
Joy is beautiful.
Connection is healing.
But your Heart also needs quiet, coolness, and time to settle.
If you’re feeling overstimulated this season, we’re here to help you cool, calm, and rebalance.

**🦌🎅 Don’t Become a Red-Nosed Reindeer This Christmas!
What a Red Nose Really Means in Chinese Medicine**

You’ve seen Santa’s shiny red nose…
You’ve definitely seen Rudolph’s glowing one…
But you don’t want to join the club this Christmas. 😉
In Chinese Medicine, the nose tells a big story about internal balance — especially Heat, Qi flow, digestion, breathing, and stress.
So let’s talk about why the nose gets red, what organ systems are involved, and what it can mean at this time of year.

👃 What the Nose Represents in TCM
The nose is the opening of the Lungs.
It reflects the health of:
• Lung Qi (breathing, immunity, boundaries)
• Large Intestine (its paired organ)
• Stomach (because the Yangming channel ends at the nose)
• Heart (redness + heat rising)
When something is “showing up” on the nose, one of these systems is trying to talk to you.

🔴 So Why the Red Nose? What Does Redness Mean?
In Chinese medicine, redness = Heat.
Heat can come from different places:
🔥 1. Stomach Heat
The Stomach meridian runs directly to the nose.
Excess sugar, alcohol, rich food, spicy food, late nights and emotional stress can all create Stomach Fire.
Signs include:
• red or oily nose
• breakouts around the nose
• strong thirst
• irritability
• bloating / reflux
• overeating or sugar cravings
(Could this explain Santa’s big red nose? … Very possibly. 😉)
🔥 2. Lung Heat
Because the nose is the Lung’s opening, heat in the Lungs can show as:
• redness
• dryness
• congestion
• sensitivity to heat
• frequent colds
• nosebleeds
• hay fever-type symptoms
This is common with Summer heat, air-conditioning, alcohol, and stress.
🔥 3. Heart Fire Rising
The Heart governs the face, complexion, and Shen (spirit).
When Heart Fire rises, it can create:
• red nose
• red cheeks
• anxiety or restlessness
• poor sleep
• palpitations
• feeling “wired”
• mouth/tongue ulcers
Think of this as emotional or overstimulation heat rising to the top of the body — very common at Christmas.
🔥 4. Alcohol Heat (very relevant in December!)
Alcohol creates internal Heat + Damp.
Result? A flushed face, red nose, heat sensation, bloating, dehydration, irritability, and disrupted sleep.
Santa is basically the TCM poster child for Damp-Heat. 🤣
🦌 What Could a Red Nose Lead To?
If the Heat continues or becomes chronic, it can contribute to:
• rosacea
• chronic sinus issues
• digestive imbalances
• anxiety + sleep disturbance
• lowered immunity
• chronic inflammation
• skin sensitivity or breakouts
• drying of fluids (Yin deficiency over time)
This is why we treat the root cause, not just the appearance.

🌿 How TCM Helps Prevent the “Red Nose Syndrome”
Acupuncture can:
• clear heat from Lungs, Stomach, and Heart
• improve circulation
• reduce inflammation
• support digestion
• release emotional stress
• regulate the nervous system
• strengthen immunity
Herbal medicine can:
• clear heat
• drain Damp
• support digestion
• calm Heart Fire
• nourish Yin
• strengthen Lung Qi
Lifestyle tips:
• drink water between drinks (or skip a few 😉)
• add cooling foods (cucumber, mint, watermelon)
• avoid overeating
• take breaks from heat + stress
• go to bed on time
• prioritise rest + regulation

✨ Stay Cool, Stay Balanced, and Keep Your Nose Merry — Not Red.
If you’re feeling the heat (literally or figuratively), we’d love to support you this festive season.
