While maternity leave is in full swing, we’re still waiting on our little man to land earth side.

Thank you all for all your thoughts, love and messages. It’s been so nice to still be able to connect with some of you.

I’ll be sure to let you know when the little man lands, but until then, feel free to continue to message on here or email. I might take a little longer than usual but I’m learning the art of patience so hopefully we can all embrace that a little 😉

LYMPHOEDEMA

I tend to see more people (usually women) with secondary upper limb lymphoedema because of the high incidence of breast cancer.

BUT did you know, that the chances of developing secondary lymphoedema from reproductive cancers is even HIGHER?!

It’s alarming to say the very least.

Secondary lymphoedema from reproductive cancers could occur in the lower limbs, ge****ls or abdomen. As seen in my lovely client here with her left leg.

It’s something to be aware of and a crucial reason why cancer rehab/allied health input is so important to be offered to people during or post treatment 🫶🏼

I’m so inspired and proud of one of my beautiful clients who created this project out of understanding and passion.

It has taken a huge amount of work but it’s finally here - The Yellow Freesia Foundation.

An organisation for young women with cancer.

They support young women aged 18-45 who have or have had any type of cancer. Providing support groups (both virtual and F2F) as well as a wealth of resources to hopefully make their paths a little smoother.

🧘🏼‍♀️ Legs Up The Wall 🧘🏼‍♀️

You’ve probably seen this posture before.

It has great benefits including:
✔️ Calming the nervous system
✔️ Promoting lymph drainage in the legs/feet
✔️ Stretching hamstrings

BUT….

Ever tried it and either found it hard to get into or felt a strain in your lower back? 🤕

If you’ve got tight hamstrings (one of the reasons you might actually want to do this pose), it can be a really DIFFICULT position to get into and cause lower back discomfort.

Try doing it in a doorway with one leg at a time as pictured or move your bottom a little further away from the wall.

Do:
✅ Keep your pelvis stable / neutral
✅ Breathe steadily
✅ Support your head if needed (spine should be long and comfortable)
✅ Relax into the posture
✅ Bend your knee if needed to keep your posture correct (either knee!)
✅ Flex the foot if you want more stretch (optional)

Don’t:
❌ Let your pelvis be tilted/twisted
❌ Arch your back
❌ Force it
❌ Hold your breath

Try these tips and let me know how you go! This is a beautiful posture to try before bed to help you drift off a little more peacefully 😴

Exercise + Cancer

Exercising during and after cancer treatment provides the following benefits:

⭐️ Improved energy levels
⭐️ Increased bone density
⭐️ Increased survival rates
(I’m going to say that one again)
⭐️ INCREASED SURVIVAL RATES
⭐️ Decreased risk of recurrence (📣 louder for the people in the back!!!)
⭐️ Improved mental health and coping
⭐️ Improve muscle mass + strength
⭐️ Improved tolerance to treatments and reduction in side effects
⭐️ Promotes better sleep

It doesn’t have to be huge, but it does need to be something. Move your body in a way you enjoy. It might be walking, weights, Pilates, yoga, swimming or playing with your kids/grandkids. Aim to increasing it over time to a moderate level.

Start slow, start gently… but start 🙏🏼🤍

The RW fam had this commissioned just for me and I can’t tell you how special it is to have something created in your honour with your own story.

To everyone who contributed last year to the purchase of this incredible gift - THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart ♥️

It’s been sitting in storage while we travelled, housesat and finally, moved house!

But now, here she sits, in my favourite room, above our piano (and carving from my late grandpa) to fill me with gratitude each and every day.

I couldn’t have asked for anything more perfect to remember the RW chapter by. I have nothing but the best memories to reflect on when I look at her each day.

What are you letting in through your SKIN?

Our SKIN is our largest organ and it is porous - meaning it ABSORBS what you put on it.

Many of our modern products contain endocrine disrupters that can wreak havoc with your hormones or carcinogenic chemicals (no thank you!).

Read your labels and look to avoid things like:
❌ Parabens
❌ Aluminium
❌ Sulfates
❌ Phthalates
❌ Fragrance
❌ Formaldehyde

I always try and choose naturally based products - bonus if they’re organic! 🍃

I’m Sarah! And I’m the face behind Recover Wellbeing.

I’m an Occupational Therapist, Pilates Instructor and certified Lymphoedema Practitioner with over 12 years experience. I have also done further training to specialise in cancer rehabilitation.

While I work with all people who have had any type of cancer, what really LIGHTS. ME. UP. is supporting women post breast cancer 🫶🏼

The season of RW has been one of the best of my life. So naturally, I have been ignoring the universal signs for a while and wanted to push onward, no matter the cost. But sometimes, the cost is more than money. Over the last 9 years, I have been pouring all my time, energy and love into RW. Now the time has come for me to reserve a little more of those precious resources for myself. In 2025, I am going to be taking a step back, working a little less and enjoying a little more. Unfortunately, Recover Wellbeing will close at the end of the year. The Pilates studio will no longer be operating. I will continue working privately as an OT providing Cancer Rehab and Lymhoedema services, however, this will be in reduced capacity and in a different location (TBC). Please refer to our blog on our website for more details or send us an email for any questions. 💌I could never express the grandness of the gratitude I feel, to all of you who have supported my business and contributed to our beautiful community. Our Story

Recover Wellbeing is a Pilates and Holistic Health Studio. Started by occupational therapist and Pilates instructor Sarah Paxford in 2016. Sarah wanted to create a space where people could feel comfortable and supported while receiving the best quality health service, information and instruction. Her aim is to bridge the gap between medical and alternative services to offer the best possible treatment for long term wellbeing.

Now in 2018, with a growing team of eight passionate and highly qualified instructors and therapists, our mission at Recover Wellbeing is to empower people on their unique health and wellness journey. To help our clients feel supported, included and valued in our community. No standards, no pressure, no age limits, no mould to fit to. Just a loving, health concious community where everyone has a place. We offer studio Pilates and a mix of therapeutic holistic health modalities including massage, craniosacral therapy and treatments post breast cancer.
