A recent survey revealed that 39% of Australians say they don’t feel confident using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) during a cardiac emergency. That’s nearly 4 in 10 people who may hesitate in a moment when seconds truly count.

Building public confidence isn’t just about training; it’s about raising awareness that you cannot hurt someone with an AED.

AEDs are designed to guide everyday people step-by-step with clear voice prompts, making them simple, safe and highly effective. The device won’t deliver a shock unless it detects a shockable rhythm, making accidental misuse virtually impossible.

Despite AEDs being designed for everyday people, not medical experts, many still fear “doing it wrong,” causing harm, or facing responsibility.

One of the highlights of the medical centre’s opening week came on Wednesday, when local teenager Thomas Hogben visited to drop off a housewarming gift: a new defibrillator.

The young Lions Club member raised more than $1500 to secure the heart-starting device for the centre, mostly by selling chocolates and leaving donation tins around the town.

Thomas’ “superhuman” fundraising effort could make the difference between life and death for a patient one day, said Wojtek Cichonski, a representative of the company which manufactured the AED.

❗❗ NEWS ❗❗

At AED Authority, we believe every community deserves a heart-safe future. That’s why we were proud to support young Thomas in his mission to make a difference. Thomas raised funds to help the Mannum Ambulance Service in South Australia secure a life-saving AED.

With a little help from us, his goal became a reality. A Lifepak CR2 defibrillator, an indoor cabinet, and signage—all of which Thomas personally handed over to the grateful team at Mannum Ambulance Service.

Stories like Thomas’s remind us of the power of everyday people taking action to save lives. Each year, over 30,000 Australians lose their lives to sudden cardiac arrest. Together, we can change this.

🏆 2024 Victorian Sport Awards 🏆

We’re thrilled to announce the AED Authority Team of the Year winner is the Victorian ISSF State Team - Target Pistol Shooting. Congratulations! 🎉

The Target Pistol Australia National Championships were contested in Brisbane in 2024, comprising 15 individual and team events with 420 entrants representing every state and territory. Victoria’s team of 14 men and women aged 18-58 and a Para-sports athlete collected three team match and three individual titles as well as all Individual Aggregate national titles (women, men and juniors). However, it was their consistent shooting across all matches, by the entire team, that saw Victoria win the overall Team Aggregate Championship and take home the Manton Shield 💪🎖

A big thank you to Vicsport and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for an unforgettable night celebrating Victorian sports. Congratulations to all the 2024 winners!
