A Meaningful Welcome at Our Narre Warren Day Program Centre 🎨
We’re proud to share the completion of a beautiful new mural in the entrance foyer of our Narre Warren Day Program Centre, created by artist Joshua James Aboriginal Designs , a proud Noongar Wardandi Bibulmun man from Noongar Boodja (Western Australia).
Today, we came together for the official presentation, where Joshua spoke with our clients and staff about the artwork, its meaning, and the story behind the design.
Titled Ngarnt Bilya, meaning “Gumtrees near the River”, the mural tells a powerful story. A river flows from the top to the bottom of the artwork, with a songline that represents the many services The Bridge provides. Along the river are people represented in cultural symbols, while the surrounding circle work reflects the families of each client who attends the centre. Throughout the design, the Ngarnt (gumtree leaves) appear, grounding the artwork in both culture and the local landscape around the centre. 🍃
Before beginning the mural, Joshua spent time with Emma, our Service Coordinator, listening deeply to what matters most in this space and to the people who use it every day. Emma shared what inspires our clients, what she sees in them daily, and what the centre truly represents. Those reflections are beautifully woven throughout the artwork.
Now, as our clients enter the centre each morning, they’re welcomed by something vibrant, meaningful, and connected to their own stories. As our client Claudio, perfectly summed it up: “I love it!” 💬
A heartfelt thank you to Joshua James for creating an artwork that not only brightens our space, but honours culture, community and connection every single day. 🧡
