We are saddened by the number of times we see patients come in with advanced head and neck cancer because they are not aware of the early signs. Since COVID, we see increased cases and delayed diagnosis due to increased reliance on telehealth and less access to GPs. Things like neck lumps are best examined in person to get an accurate diagnosis. Please share this infographic with your friends and family.

Yesterday Richard presented on TORS (Transoral Robotic Surgery) oncological outcomes at the annual meeting of the Society of Robotic Surgery in Melbourne.

This meeting is a great opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic results and developments in the field of robotic surgery - something our practice is particularly passionate about.

“There is a lack of funding and large gap in facial prosthetic services for Head and Neck Cancer patients in Australia compared to the UK,” said Anaplastologist Sophie Fleming at the recent conference on the Gold Coast.
https://buff.ly/3RGpgK9

Sophie specialises in external prosthetic rehabilitation of the face and body, like the prosthetic nose she is creating here for former patient, Ron.

Due to a lack of funding there are limited facial prosthetic services in Australia with no providers available in South Australia, the Northern Territory or Tasmania for facial or ear prosthesis. As a result some HNC survivors whose treatment has left them with facial disfigurement have limited options to restore their self-esteem and confidence, greatly impacting the person and their lifestyle.

Richard has seen a run of plunging ranulas in adults recently and thought it was worth further discussion. His latest blog discusses diagnosis and treatment, and the origin of the name, which has something to do with frogs. WARNING: the blog includes graphic surgical images.

Dr Richard Gallagher is a Sydney based head and neck surgeon and surgical oncologist with more than twenty years’ experience. He is Australia’s highest volume individual da Vinci transoral robotic surgeon (TORS) and a human papillomavirus (HPV) oropharyngeal cancer expert.

Looking forward to this. We can already see a few familiar faces!

Looking forward to this. We can already see a few familiar faces!

Let the countdown begin!

Only 14 days until the launch of Deck the Halls, performed by Australia's first-ever Head and Neck Cancer Virtual Choir!

The choir is an initiative to ‘Raise the Voices’ of people living with head and neck cancer to increase awareness and advocate for dedicated funding for prevention and patient care.

Thank you to everyone who got involved - whether you held up a sign, snapped your fingers, sang or played an instrument - we are so grateful!

Please help by sharing our Christmas Carol on 13 December with friends, family and work colleagues.
