There’s a new threat to access and affordability of healthcare.
Today my colleagues and I discussed with doctors at a Darlinghurst practice how the NSW Government will potentially rely on a court ruling last year and collect payroll tax for the first time (including retrospectively) on fees charged by contracting GPs.
This liability could be hundreds of thousands of dollars each for many practices.
This move would force the closure of practices and higher fees for patients - each leading to more patients presenting at overwhelmed hospital emergency departments where waiting times are blowing out from budget cuts.
Other states have acted. The Opposition is calling on the NSW Government to grant an amnesty to June 2025 and then appropriate exemptions going forward.

Upcoming Study: Atopic Dermatitis (AD)

Do you suffer from eczema AKA Atopic Dermatitis (AD)? You may be eligible for a clinical trial recruiting for adults with mild-to-moderate AD.

In light of the current unmet need for alternative treatments for AD, BioLexa™ is being developed for the topical treatment of mild-to-moderate AD by suppressing the overpopulation of bad bacterial species on the skin.

Your GP can now send you prescriptions as eScripts. These are sent to your phone as an SMS that links to a unique QR barcode (known as a ‘token’).You show this on your phone when you go in to the pharmacy to have your script made up. Or you can email the token to your preferred pharmacy to have your script ready in advance. An eScript replaces the paper prescription, but you may still choose a paper prescription if you prefer.

The best things about eScript are:
You can access your scripts whenever you need them, from wherever you are
You’ll never lose another prescription
You can order your script in advance, saving time at the pharmacy
You can store these in an electronic wallet like ‘MedAdvisor’ which means you can easily keep track of your prescriptions and repeats
