Kirketon Road Centre

Kirketon Road Centre Gadigal Country KRC is a health care service that provides free and anonymous care to people who experience barriers to accessing health care. What's our story?

KRC opened in 1987 at a time when it was clear that existing clinics and healthcare services were not well adapted to the needs of certain groups of people in the area. We believe that healthcare is a basic human right and that some populations have poorer access to healthcare. We are funded to provide services to:

1. People who inject drugs or are experiencing drug related harms
2. Sex workers
3

. People experiencing homelessness
4. At-risk young people under 25, experiencing any of the above
5. People in urgent need of sexual health or HIV/Hepatitis care

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we’re looking back at some of the NAIDOC Week celebrations we’ve shared together over the years. 🖤💛❤️

From BBQs and yarns to art, music and connection - NAIDOC Week at KRC has always been about showing up, listening deeply and celebrating the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, “The Next Generation – Strength, Vision & Legacy”, is a powerful reminder of the role we all play in supporting young mob to thrive. Their voices carry wisdom, their stories shape the future, and their leadership lights the path forward.

NAIDOC Week isn’t just one week on the calendar - it reflects our ongoing commitment to standing in solidarity, learning from Elders, and backing First Nations communities every day.

We’re proud to walk alongside, and we’ll continue showing up - always.

Got memories from past KRC NAIDOC events? We’d love to see them - send us a message to be featured in an upcoming !

Please be advised that this post may contain names, images or voices of deceased persons.

🔥 Today at KRC, we came together for a spectacular Naidoc Week BBQ – a chance to share food, connect, yarn, and celebrate culture.

As part of NAIDOC Week, we gathered to honour the past, celebrate the present, and look to the future. A heartfelt thank you to our Aboriginal Project Officer Ann-Marie for organising, as well as Aunty Rhonda and Uncle John for leading a beautiful Welcome To Country and Smoking Ceremony - sharing your knowledge, stories, and strength.

We acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of the land we met on today, and recognise their enduring connection to land, culture and community. Aunty Rhonda spoke so powerfully to this and the resilience of Aboriginal people.

This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, invites us to reflect on the contributions of Elders and leaders while uplifting the voices of the next generation shaping the future. At KRC, we’re proud to stand alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in that journey.

Thank you to all the BBQers and helpers who made today possible – and here’s to a full week of celebration, reflection and learning.

We still have various activities running throughout this week and welcome all to join us in celebration of this incredible week.

🖤💛❤️ NAIDOC Week 2025🖤💛❤️

Next week we take time to honour and celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures, and enduring achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week is a reminder that sovereignty was never ceded - and that First Nations people continue to lead, heal, resist and thrive. It’s a time to reflect on the strength and resilience of the world’s oldest continuous culture, and to listen deeply to stories that stretch across more than 65,000 years.

🌿 Join us at KRC for a NAIDOC Week BBQ
📅 Tuesday 8 July
🕛 12pm – 2pm

We’re honoured to welcome Aunty Rhonda, a respected community Elder, who will be joining us for a yarn, a feed, and to share knowledge.

All are welcome - clients, staff, community. Come along to connect, eat, and celebrate together.

Let’s continue to walk together in recognition, respect, and action.

Here are our brilliant Project Officers Akif and Ann-Marie out at Clontarf Health Check Day, repping KRC with energy, knowledge and handing out over 200 condom tins (they were gone in minutes 👀).

With the incredible support of the PEYAC team, they headed to Endeavour High School last week to connect with students and deliver important education around sexual health and contraception.

Big thanks to both and for having us as part of this powerful health promotion day!

🥄 Farewell, Cross Cooks.
After 17 incredible years, we say goodbye to our long-running Cross Cooks program - a joint initiative between KRC and The Albion Centre that’s nourished more than just stomachs since 2004.

What started as a simple way to share nutrition knowledge and cooking skills grew into a valued community tradition, helping hundreds of people connect, learn, and build confidence over a hot meal.

A heartfelt thank you to Gemma, Joey, Albion Centre, the ongoing dietitian + students supporting and the many other staff and facilitators who stirred the pot - literally and figuratively. Your dedication helped turn ingredients into impact.

While we’re closing the lid on this chapter, we’re excited to welcome back Toastie Tuesdays - Warm sandwiches 11AM every Tuesday, keeping the spirit of food and connection alive at KRC.

👋 Here’s to the meals we shared and the memories made.

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we’re honouring our nurses - out on outreach and on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. 🩺🧡

When the world slowed down, they stepped up.

In the thick of uncertainty, our KRC nursing team hit the streets - bringing vaccines, PPE, healthcare and compassion directly to those who needed it most.

From laneways to parks, housing services to the heart of Kings Cross, they worked tirelessly to make sure vulnerable communities weren’t left behind.

It was a time of fear, isolation, and constant change - but these nurses showed up with calm, care and courage. We’re endlessly proud of the way they met the moment with strength and heart.

Thank you to our nurses and outreach teams - past and present - for being the steady hands and open hearts at the core of KRC.

Nurses continue to hold the frontlines, delivering vaccinations, including the flu vaccine. The flu has been brutal this winter season, but worry not, because our super nurses can vaccinate you! Pop into our clinic if you would like to get one for free!

Got old photos or memories from KRC? We’d love to feature them in our Throwback Thursday series - send us a message and get involved!
