Kirketon Road Centre

Kirketon Road Centre Gadigal Country KRC is a health care service that provides free and anonymous care to people who experience barriers to accessing health care. What's our story?

KRC opened in 1987 at a time when it was clear that existing clinics and healthcare services were not well adapted to the needs of certain groups of people in the area. We believe that healthcare is a basic human right and that some populations have poorer access to healthcare. We are funded to provide services to:

1. People who inject drugs or are experiencing drug related harms
2. Sex workers
3

. People experiencing homelessness
4. At-risk young people under 25, experiencing any of the above
5. People in urgent need of sexual health or HIV/Hepatitis care

Recently, our Counselling Unit Manager, Julie retired from KRC. Here are some words from our Service Manager Wendy on the impact and wisdom left behind by Julie.

We would like to offer our grateful thanks to Julie, our Counselling Unit Manager, who has recently retired from KRC. Julie has worked at KRC for over 7 years and has brought a passion for providing quality care to the clients of KRC and in particular has led improvements in how we work with Aboriginal clients and clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

She was the driving force behind KRC getting an Aboriginal Counselling position and working to include culture in our consultations. Julie has a strong background in drug and alcohol counselling and has passed this on at KRC. She recognised the need for more counselling services in the south of our Local Health District and has developed and built the successful counselling service at KRC South. Julie also introduced consumers onto our interview panels and was always looking for ways to increase the voice of KRC consumers.

Personally Julie has been a wonderful colleague, mentor and manager, always checking in on others to see that they are okay. She has supported her staff to work, develop and debrief and been an advocate for the counselling role within and outside of KRC. She has demonstrated courage, integrity and care and she will be sadly missed. We wish her all the best in her retirement.

Thank you Julie for everything. You will be greatly missed. ๐Ÿ’š

Keeping in the spirit of Youth Week,

Did you know that we have a dedicated youth clinic at KRC Kellett Street?

We offer appointments every Monday and Thursday mornings, though we are flexible and can always work around someone's schedule.

A young person coming in can also receive$40 in Opal or Coles vouchers - a small incentive to upkeep healthy behaviours and normalising visiting healthcare providers, crucial during adolescence.

If you or anyone you know wants to book in, give us a call on 9360 2766.

It's Youth Week!

Did you know that at KRC - in collaboration with DDU, we have a group of PEYAC Peers?

Peer Education and Youth Advisory Committee (PEYAC) is a diverse and dynamic group of young people who deliver peer education on sexual health, AOD harm reduction, and other topics that matter to young people (including really funny stickers and condom tins).

PEYAC also provides advice, shapes programs and resources, and helps make our services more youth friendly.

Here are some of our PEYAC members on outreach. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽ‰
