Kate suffered from rosacea for 5+ years and could not get on top of it. It flares when she had a big night out, is stressed at work or rundown and running on coffee.

Her GP prescribed her ongoing antibiotics but Kate was reluctant because she had read this would impact her gut microbiome.

HealthBank connected her with a naturopath who ran a comprehensive digestive stool test which revealed bacterial overgrowth.

She started on a treatment protocol of antimicrobial herbs, a broad spectrum probiotic and anti inflammatory nutrients.

She removed dairy and gluten and increased quality protein and antioxidant-rich foods like green leafy vegetables and blueberries to reduce inflammation.

She has been able to manage her rosacea with no antibiotics.

Could eating healthy fats improve men's s*x drive?

If you have low libido, testosterone is the first thing that we should look at as it’s an important male s*x hormone that is responsible for building muscle and bone mass as well as stimulating s***m production. Low testosterone affects 1 in 200 men under the age of 60 in Australia. Dietary fat is a key player when it comes to optimising natural testosterone production.

Due to a number of factors, some men’s mental health issues have gone unrecognised for a long time. Many men are still not aware of some of the most common indicators that there’s a problem. There is still a lot of stigma around men's mental health, which stops men seeking out the help they need. This needs to change!!

HealthBank is about supporting change by improving the way care is delivered. Online appointments are easy, confidential and can take place anywhere you are comfortable.

Should we be concerned about the cholesterol in eggs?

The truth is that cholesterol is a very important part of the body and for good health. It is a structural molecule that is an essential part of every single cell membrane. It is used to make steroid hormones such as testosterone, oestrogen and cortisol, it helps your metabolism work efficiently and it produces bile acids, which help the body digest fat, and absorb important nutrients. If you’re concerned about elevated cholesterol levels, it’s probably more important to look at the amount of saturated fat and trans-fats you’re consuming.

Have you ever wondered “Why aren’t I gaining muscle mass or size?”

After you workout, your body starts to repair or replace the damaged muscle fibres through a cellular process where it fuses muscle fibres together to form new strands of muscle protein called myofibrils.

These repaired myofibrils increase in thickness, size and number to create muscle hypertrophy (growth).

This, surprisingly, does not happen while you actually lift the weights. Instead, it occurs while you rest.

Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers in the body. Their job is to transmit signals from nerve cells to target cells. These target cells may be in muscles, glands, or other nerves. The brain needs neurotransmitters to regulate many necessary functions, including: heart rate, breathing, sleep cycles, digestion, mood, concentration, appetite, muscle movement.

There are many neurotransmitters but here FIVE of the main ones involved in the Brain-Mood-Body connection:

SEROTONIN - Its main functions are control of appetite, regulation of body temperature, regulation of sleep, regulation of pain, regulation of mood, pain control, correct functioning of digestion, regulation of arousal state & sensory perception.

DOPAMINE - main functions in the body include modulating mood and plays a central role in positive reinforcement, motivation and dependency, memory, movement and posture.

GABA - is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter that is very widely distributed in the neurons of the cortex. It helps regulate anxiety, sleep and vision and motor control.

NORADRENALINE (NOREPINEPHRINE) - is important for arousal, REM sleep, attention & concentration, memory formation, storage & retrieval of information, stimulates the release of hormones that stimulate the thymus gland, modulates serotonin & dopamine.""

ACETYLCHOLINE - main functions in the body include memory support, learning & attention span, REM sleep, releases gastric acid & digestive enzymes for proper digestion.
