โ™ฟ International Wheelchair Day โ™ฟ

Today we celebrate mobility, independence, and freedom.

For millions of people worldwide, wheelchairs aren't just mobility devices - they're tools of liberation. They enable education, employment, community participation, and connection. They transform lives.

At Metanoia Rays, we're proud to support participants who use wheelchairs to achieve their goals - whether that's accessing the community, pursuing employment, participating in recreation, or simply living life on their own terms.

Today, we recognise:
๐Ÿ’™ The importance of accessible spaces and inclusive design
๐Ÿ’™ The right to mobility and independence for all
๐Ÿ’™ The ongoing work needed to remove barriers
๐Ÿ’™ The strength and resilience of the wheelchair community

Let's continue building a world where everyone can move freely, participate fully, and thrive. Because accessibility isn't a privilege - it's a right.

๐Ÿ’ผ Meet *Jake's Employment Journey ๐Ÿ’ผ
Two years of job searching. Countless rejections. But *Jake never gave up on his dream of "a real job with real wages."

Through our Customised Employment services, we helped *Jake:
โ†’ Identify his strengths
โ†’ Find the right workplace match
โ†’ Negotiate necessary supports
โ†’ Navigate challenges like sensory sensitivities with safety equipment
โ†’ Build confidence in his new role

Today, *Jake works full-time in a warehouse, has been promoted, and mentors new employees.

*Jake's biggest concern? Safety equipment. Wearing earmuffs triggered sensory sensitivities that made previous roles difficult. Together with his new employer, we found solutions - gradual desensitisation, different equipment options, and structured breaks.

His message: "I'm not just earning money - I'm earning respect. This job gave me my dignity back."

When employment is done right, it transforms lives.

International Mother Language Day ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐ŸŒ

Everyone has the right to communicate and be understood.

For people with disabilities, this might mean:
โœจ Speaking their mother language with interpreters
โœจ Using Auslan or other sign languages
โœจ Communicating through AAC devices
โœจ Using visual supports or communication aids
โœจ Being supported by bilingual workers

At Metanoia Rays, we believe communication access is a fundamental right.

It's Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿค๐Ÿ–ค

Aromantic people experience little to no romantic attraction. This doesn't mean they don't form deep, meaningful relationships - it just looks different.

3 ways to be an ally:
๐Ÿ’š Learn about the aromantic spectrum
๐Ÿค Respect diverse relationship models
๐Ÿ–ค Challenge amatonormativity (the assumption that everyone wants/needs romantic relationships)

At Metanoia Rays, we support participants in defining success and fulfillment on their own terms - including how they approach relationships.

Reel Description: Bold blue animated text reading 'Aromanitc Spectrum Awareness week' with the flag bearing the colours green, white, grey and black flying behind the text. Reel also contains the Metanoia Rays and we heart NDIS logos.

๐ŸŒŸ From Isolated to Connected ๐ŸŒŸ

*Michael's NDIS goal was simple but significant: "I want to make friends."

After years of feeling isolated, *Michael wanted to be part of a community. But social anxiety and past experiences made it feel impossible.

Our community access team started small:
+ Weekly visits to a local cafรฉ - same time, same place, building familiarity,
+ Gradually introducing group activities he enjoyed,
+ Supporting him to join a gaming group at the library,
+ Helping him navigate social situations at his own pace.

The breakthrough moment? Three months in, *Michael texted his support worker: "I gave someone my number today. We're meeting up next week to play games. I have a friend!"

Now, *Michael attends regular gaming sessions, has a small but meaningful friend group, and recently joined a community sports team.

When we asked him what changed, he said: "Having someone believe I could do it made me believe it too."

Connection isn't just nice to have - it's essential. And everyone deserves support to find their community.

Reel Description: A little video of a participant in focus smiling at the camera, in a circle with others not in focus interacting with each other and some colourful building blocks. Text overlay, "Participant stories" with the Metanoia Rays and we heart NDIS logos.
