Next time you feel challenged by your emotions remember this 90 second rule🩵When an emotion is triggered, the body experiences a wave of chemicals which is what then creates the physical sensations we associate with an emotion. Anxiety - heart racing, tingling, or that classic general uneasiness. After 90 seconds, this chemical surge fades and our body will return to its normal steady state.
BUT if we continue to dwell on the emotion by feeding it with mental narratives like 'oh no I'm feeling anxious again or what if that super far fetched worst case scenario does happen' we will then re-trigger the chemical surge and maintain that anxious state with these mental emotional loops.
Understanding this can help us to navigate these tricky emotional states.

Recognise the initial brief surge, notice the sensations, observer, no story, breathe, notice let it pass. 90 seconds and you're done ✨️

Sitting down at the alter of the Self is a radical act of reclamation. To hold deep reverence for the self in a world that demands so much from our bodies and minds is one of the best ways to tune into our authenticity.
Because If we are not in reverence with ourselves then we must ask -what am I in reverence to? What am I giving my energy to? What has my attention? And are these things in alignment with who I am and where I want to be going.

Developing rituals of self-awareness - lighting candles at our feet-taking deep long breaths and making space in the mind for our spirit to speak. A quiet rebellion, a radical act of self reverence.

The heaviness and heartbreak of the world at the moment feels palpable- interestingly heartbreak often moves us equally to action as it does to turn our backs and run the other way. How in baring witness to the deep suffering and pain of other human beings can we keep our hearts open?

Deep reverent presence is what holds me to account and keeps me open.
Through breath, meditation and heart centred movement we work to develop our capacity to hold more and keep our heart open and forever compassionate.

A mid week invite to allow yourself to feel.

The only thing that is required when feelings arise is to experience them- fully, wholly and with presence.

So often when a strong feeling arises we are tempted to numb, distract or dilute which usually maintains or postpones the uncomfortable experience.

By allowing ourseves to notice the sensations in the body without narrative just a stripped back experience of feeling we can then catch a glimpse of the role, purpose and gift the feeling has to offer us ✨️

I had a conversation recently with a client about the constraints that exist within our current medical model and the limitations in the approaches to mental health.

The more I work in this area the more I notice a shared experience of people feeling misunderstood and isolated from the basic support and care needed in times of crisis and vulnerability.

One beautiful act of resistance that came through this conversation from a person facing adversity was the concept of 'using the gift of our nervous system to overcome the broken system'. Through a variety of practices and methods we can equip ourselves to strengthen our nervous systems and move through obstacles with more ease and peace. I love the age old methods of breath work, kundalini yoga and meditation but there are countless ways to do this, to use our own internal power to breakthrough the system ✨️
