It is disappointing news for women in Darwin, who are now unable to chose private obstetric care within the NT, as a birthing choice.
This is disgusting, the only private provider in the NT to just pull the pin at short notice, and close off the only private health choice for NT women & families.
I have had reassurance from the RDH Director Of Nursing & Midwifery, that the following is in place:
# Private women who have already commenced their antenatal care with one of the tow (2) private obstetricians can still continue to do so, until they have had their baby
the women are in labour, the RDH midwives along with the private obstetricians will care for them through their labour and birth
# Once the baby is born, the private obstetricians will visit the women and their babies on the postnatal ward.
women and their babies meet the criteria to be safely be sent home or to a hotel, will have postnatal care in their facility or home, with the RDH midwives for up-to and including day 10 (yes some maybe phone calls, but safety is the first priority, if a home visit is required, then this will be facilitated).
as usual the care, after Day 10, care will be transferred to the Community Care Centres.
The DPH Midwives have not made contact with RDH yet, to obtain a contract with the Department of Health.
The Darwin Healthscope Private Hospital (the Employer) are not playing fair with the DPH Midwives, and if the DPH Midwives leave now and start a RDH contract prior to 6th June, the DPH midwives will not receive the well deserved money (redundancy packages or pro-rata of long service leave entitlements).
This is why the DPH midwives have not approached RDH as yet, but some will after 6th June 2025.
If DPH Employer (Healthscope) do not offer redundancy packages (so far they haven't), ANMF NT will take them to the Fair Work Commission (FWC).
