In 2016, following my eldest son losing two of his school mates to leukaemia, I was inspired to raise money for cancer. I participated in the WORLD'S GREATEST SHAVE 2016, shaving my long black hair with a razor at half time of the NTFL Grand Final at the TIO Stadium. Initially we set a goal to raise $5,000 but thanks to the love, support and generosity of the Darwin community and beyond, in just 7 weeks we raised over $28,600; being the highest fundraisers in the Northern Territory and second in Australia. After realising the difference that together we can make, I was inspired to continue my fundraising journey; so I signed up for the Get Your Blood Pumping Mt. Kilimanjaro Challenge. In June 2017 I climbed the mighty Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, the tallest free standing mountain in the world and raised a further $20,562 for the Leukaemia Foundation to help our fellow 50,000+ Australians with leukaemia. I am now even more passionate and determined to continue my active involvement in the fight against cancer and other life threatening situations. I have extended 'Shelly's Climb for Cancer’ and have embarked on a life journey - 'Quest for Life with Shelly Westley'. It is my goal to continue to dream big and to participate in more amazing challenges whilst also raising awareness and money for different organisations and appeals; helping them to provide services and support for the many Australian’s impacted everyday. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated because it all adds up! “Every five cents counts”. The 'Wall of Roses’ appeal was founded as part of ‘Shelly’s Quest for Cancer’, as a way of uniting and connecting people in the fight against cancer. The red rose was chosen as it is a symbol of passion, abiding love and courage. For a $100 (or more) donation direct to the *chosen fundraising appeal* (tax deductible) you can become part of the ‘Wall of Roses’ appeal and receive a life like, single, long stemmed, red 'Wall of Roses Supporter' rose. It is asked that each person take a photo of themselves with their rose so it can be added to the ‘Wall of Roses’ gallery. Any person, business or organisation that wishes to make a $500 (or more) donation (tax deductable) or contribution* (non tax deductable) will receive a larger ‘Wall of Roses Sponsor’ rose. Businesses are encouraged to take a photo of their rose with their logo to acknowledge and promote their business as a 'Wall of Roses Sponsor' on promotional materials; social media including Facebook and Instagram and at public events.
