I've got my creative hat on today 👒, and upcycling with coffee pods, gorgeous fabric, teeny tiny Flamingos ( of course ) 🤣, paint, cotton, glue and absolutely no idea where I'm going with this! But it's so much fun and I'm in the zone of calm & relaxed, plus all the amazing things creativity does for my brain 🧠.

Waking up feeling as though you have a weight on your chest?
Anxious and tense?

Try one or more of these:

Scan your body for tension. We are often unaware that we have underlying tension, which is often in the abdomen, hips, shoulders, neck and jaw.
I've occasionally had it in my arms!

One on One breathing: Equal inhale and exhale. Work with a count of seconds that is comfortable for you: nothing forced.

Look around ( if its light enough) and gaze on four things that bring you joy: a picture on the wall, the colour of something, the shape, perhaps light coming through the window / curtains, luxurious, soft bed linen etc...

We may have no power or aircon, but we do have Fairy Lights and LED candles, so tonights studio theme will be Santa's Grotto! The doors will be open for a (here's hoping!) gentle breeze and there will be alot of restful, regulating, Vagus focused movement.

What is this Flamingo Five?

It's taking the opportunity throughout the day to stop and self regulate with regards to your Nervous System.

Here's a couple of options, from a humungous list!

🌟 Sit for 5 minutes and do a body scan for tension.
🌟 Take 5 breaths, equal inhale and exhale. Ideally for 5 seconds in : 5 seconds out. If 5 seconds is too long, make it shorter.
🌟 Look around you and identify 5 things that make you smile or bring you joy.

And sometimes, its easy to do & other times its easy to get distracted.

These small actions can help with Nervous System Regulation: which can affect Inflammation, Chronic Pain and so many other systems. Stay tuned, as I have heaps to share with you from my recent Nervous System Training: Trauma Informed, Evidence Based and its been a game changer for me.

This is my attempt to do my Flamingo Five today, easily distracted initially, but got there in the end.
Who wouldn't be distracted by Pelicans!!

Our minds are often scattered.

When we're at work, we think about our next holiday.
When we're on holiday, we think about work.
When we wake up, we think about the day ahead.
When we go to bed, we think about the following day.
When we eat, we think about the cleaning up.
When we're cleaning up, we think about what's for our next meal.

How often are you truly present in what you are doing?

Our Breath can bring us back to the present. No need to deep breathe, no need to fast breathe, just notice it and see if you can have an equal inhale / exhale duration.
Nothing fancy, just notice it ❤️

Have you done your Flamingo Five today?

This is my little reminder to take a 'Flamingo Five' during the day. That's 5 minutes of just stopping, taking note of how I'm feeling and self regulating. My early start on Bribie has gone out of the window, with the closure of the Bribie exit meaning a detour via Pumicestone Passage. A quick Flamingo Five to reset, and on with the remainder of the day.

I've almost completed my Nervous System Training course with Jessica Maguire, and it has been amazing. I'm already incorporating it into my clinical practice, and looking at issues through a lens of Nervous System awareness has been a game changer.

I'm really excited to open up our January 2026 workshop bookings where you will learn about:
