Daylesford Hospital Upgrade Appeal

Daylesford Hospital Upgrade Appeal It last received a notable funding upgrade about twenty years ago. We don’t want to be left behind! Each of us can play a vital part in making this happen! A. Q.

About the Daylesford Hospital Upgrade Appeal:
The Daylesford Hospital has provided greatly valued health services for our local and surrounding community for almost 160 years. Present facilities are seriously inadequate for future health care service provision requirements, with its buildings languishing. Our community is at real risk of being unable to access many vital services, despite the best efforts of an excellent health care workforce. If we are to retain our local hospital, the building must be upgraded. This community campaign has been launched to try and make it happen and we need your help! This will be a major multi-staged project:
STEP 1: Master Plan Development - estimated at $100,000. We aim to raise this amount by Christmas in partnership with our local community and the support of the Daylesford Community Bank. COMPLETED in October 2021
STEP 2: Political support - we want a commitment before the November 2022 state election, from both the current Government and the Opposition to fund the entire project. STEP 3: Delivery of a fully upgraded Daylesford Hospital that will continue to meet the health needs of our community for decades to come. Please look around our page and learn how you can be a part of ensuring our growing regional community can access first class healthcare! Each of us can help play a vital part in making this project become a reality, in one or more ways: Donate - Discuss - Deliver! Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. Why was the community asked to help fund the master plan? Public hospitals receive a certain mix of funding from government to support its running and capital costs. State Government can make discretionary allocations to fund master plans. To date, this level of targeted support has not yet been obtained from Government, but would be a welcomed investment in the future of our hospital. Fundraising activities and donation campaigns are important ways that members of the public can help show support for a hospital and the care it provides. The Daylesford Hospital is a cherished local asset. It needs an upgrade so its excellent workforce can continue providing first class health care. Our community was asked to demonstrate support by donating funds towards to a master plan to develop details for an upgraded hospital. The funds raised to date allowed the Hospital’s management to then launch this process. Why is there a community campaign now? The timing of this campaign is to firstly, try and get the master plan developed; and secondly, to bring to the attention of politicians how very highly we value our local hospital and want to see its continued success. A State election is being held in November 2022. This provides an important opportunity for both the State Government and Opposition to get behind our campaign and commit to providing the necessary funding to deliver an upgraded hospital. When was the last significant upgrade of the hospital? The last time that the Daylesford Hospital received a signification funding boost from the State Government for capital upgrade works was in the early 2000s. A large investment in our hospital is vital to ensure its ongoing success and ability to provide first class, local health care. The master plan is a critical first step towards realising this. What happens once the $100K amount is raised? This figure is an indicative amount that would provide hospital management with the confidence to commence the master plan. Once this process begins, our Committee would seek ongoing pledges of support to raise funds for Stage 2 of the project - and pledges would be called in once we have a commitment from Government that the upgrade will proceed. We are grateful for the support of the Bendigo Bank’s Community Bank Daylesford District to help manage the associated campaign account. I really want to support the hospital campaign – how can I help? Yes! There are many ways you can support the campaign!

Thanks to so very many who supported the Daylesford Hospital Upgrade Appeal, writes Deputy Mayor and Chair of the DHUA Committee, Cr Lesley Hewitt in this week’s The Wombat Post.

The great blueprint for the Master Plan and the recent $4.5M investment in the operating theatre upgrade from Mary-Anne Thomas MP and the Andrews Government provides positive opportunities to build on, and hopefully further invest in over time, for the community.

Hepburn Shire Council acknowledged the significant commitment from the Liberal Party of $75M to fund the upgrade Master Plan.

This was a priority project identified by the HSC.

HSC called on Mary-Anne Thomas MP to match the important pledge.

A positive relationship with State Government is key for any local government, and we have been thrilled to partner with the current government on many key projects recently and are very thankful of funding provided to our community on key projects.

Several election promises have made recently as part of the Victorian State Government election.

We welcome the following commitments and encourage all sides of politics to support these important projects for our Shire:
👉$75 million for the upgrade to Daylesford Hospital (one of our advocacy priorities) - Liberal Party commitment
👉 $16 million toward the cost of a new Materials Recovery Facility at Ballarat – Liberal Party commitment
👉 $100,000 towards the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre – Labor Party commitment
👉 $950,000 to redevelop the Creswick Scout Hall for the Creswick Scouts and Creswick U3A (one of our advocacy priorities) – Liberal Party commitment.
